On Friday, October 12, Upper School students participated in the annual World Dance Workshop.
Students of all levels experienced a variety of styles in a new setting with new teachers. The World Dance Workshop featured six workshops highlighting dance styles from all around the world, including Greek folk dance, taught by Buckley’s own Sara Palaskas; belly dance; swing dance, taught by Buckley alum Amy Lawrence; hip-hop; b-boying and top rocking; and contemporary/lyrical.
The World Dance Workshop is a source of inspiration for the upcoming concert in April, helping students to pull from a variety of inspirations to create new works on stage. The concert theme itself will be decided through a democratic process after student proposals are submitted throughout October and November, so the process reflects students’ inspirations and experiences.
Upper School students of Spanish 3 Honors, Spanish 4 Honors, and AP Spanish attended the dress rehearsal of the opera, El último sueño de Frida y Diego, and stopped for lunch at the Pueblo de Los Angeles on Olvera Street.
