  • Ceramics Masters Series: Dr. Seuss | Grades K-5

    Dr. Seuss’s artistic vision emerged as the golden thread that linked every facet of his illustrious career. He single-handedly forged a new genre of art that falls somewhere between the surrealist movement of the early 20th century and the inspired nonsense of a child’s classroom doodles.

    Students will create their own original ceramic pieces inspired by the work of Dr. Seuss. Their sculpted pieces will be glazed, fired in a kiln, and returned at the end of the term.

    Our extended day program is offered daily from the conclusion of Beyond the Bell programs at 4:30 until 6:00 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to refresh with an allergen-free snack, engage in supervised playtime, enjoy a good book, or work on completing school assignments. Participants must sign up for a Beyond the Bell program for each day of the week that they enroll in the extended day program. Students will be picked up each day by no later than 6:00 p.m.

  • Fantasy Basketball: Pick Em & Playoffs with Mr. Fox | Grades 3-5

    Do you love to play basketball? How about running your own team?  Running a fantasy basketball league is not only fun but educational.  Students will learn the basics including statistics, data analytics, and negotiation skills while participating in fun and engaging conversations with their peers. Our fantasy season will end on April 10 and our focus will change to a pick em, where we’ll look at stats and records to make predictions on the outcomes of playoff games.

  • Fun, Games, and Fitness with Coach Holland | Grades K-2

    This program will cover many of the games and activities that we study in physical education. We will play a variety of sports while working on skill development, sportsmanship, and teamwork. This program is designed for the children to have lots of FUN and find success at every turn.

  • Graffiti Rebel | Grades 3-5

    Street Art & Graffiti are now at the forefront of the art scene. This program allows your aspiring street artists to learn the basic fundamentals of this art form. This is a don’t miss class for any elementary-aged artist

  • Krafty Kinders with Ms. Brown | Kindergarten

    What do you get when you cross kindergarten readiness with arts and crafts? Krafty Kinders, of course! Kindergarten readiness is made fun in this enrichment course with our amazing Ms. Brown, who will facilitate fun games and craft projects each week with the kindergartners which provide them the opportunity to strengthen fine motor skills, gain independence and foster creativity in a structured, safe, and supportive environment. The addition of familiar stories and songs will make learning fun!  Particular attention will be paid to pencil grip, cutting skills, early literacy skills, and familiarizing participants with the proper use of school supplies and learning materials.

    Join our energizing after-school “Maths Bonanza” class with games, manipulatives, and hands-on creations that will help build math skills and motivate participants to experience the beauty of math in our world.

    Learn to hand sew and embroider with Miss Shannon's Sewing School. All projects teach different sewing skills beginning with learning how to sew on a button. All materials, supplies, and sewing kits are included.

  • Tech Kids: Stop Motion Animation | Grades 3-5

    Have a blast with Stop Motion Animation using clay, Legos, whiteboards, cutouts, and more! Storyboard ideas, develop plots, and create unique characters as you bring inanimate objects to life! Each student receives a copy of the collaborative classwork at the end of the session.

  • Compassion in Action with Mrs. Levitt | Grades K-5

    Each week, students will learn about a charitable organization in the greater Los Angeles area, across the country, or around the world. After engaging in thoughtful discussions, the children will have an opportunity to do fun, hands-on projects to help the charities further their missions in addition to learning how to turn their own compassion into action. Community Service hours will be awarded for each week the students attend this course.

  • Griffin Study Hall with Ms. Murphy | Grades 3-5

    Griffin Study Hall provides third through fifth graders a nurturing environment on campus to work with classmates and our amazing Buckley Faculty to polish study skills, complete homework assignments, or work on ongoing classroom projects.  Our teachers will help students build confidence while supporting their learning.  Please note that while this class is offered two times a week, each day requires a separate enrollment, and the days are not interchangeable.

  • Junior Hoops Rebel | Grades K-2

    Designed for our younger athletes and sports fans, Junior Hoops Rebel will teach players fundamental basketball skills including dribbling, passing, shooting, and ball-handling, while focusing on teamwork and sportsmanship.

  • Stories, Stories, Stories with Dr. Totland | Grades K-2

    The world is full of characters and their stories. Anansi (who lives in Ghana), Mole and Rat (who live by a river), Yeh-Shen (who lives in China), and Ahmed (who lives in Cairo) are just a few of the incredible characters we’ll meet as we imagine our way around the world. Working together we’ll read, invent, and perform a caboodle of stories as we challenge ourselves to figure out what it is that makes a story (and the life it illustrates) memorable.

  • Woodworking: A Workshop for Kids | Grades 3-5 - CANCELLED

    This class is a fun-filled introduction into the world of woodworking, specifically designed for beginners. Students will use fine motor skills to forge a strong connection between the hands and the mind. They are encouraged to try new ideas, exercise their imagination and creativity, and are allowed to make mistakes in a safe environment. With the guidance of an experienced artist/woodworker, children learn how to use tools safely, effectively, and (ultimately) independently. Students will have the opportunity to build a number of take-home projects that increase in complexity as they progress through their session. Please note that Tuesday’s session is for third through fifth grade only.

  • World Dance | Grades 2-5

    From African dance to voguing and Latin fusion, this fun upbeat dance class introduces students to various dance styles from around the world. Students will learn the history and origin of each dance style they are introduced to. Class starts with a warm-up focusing on technique, strength, and flexibility followed by a fun challenging dance routine and educational games.
     
    Please note that there will not be a culminating performance for families during this shortened session, which makes the course ideal for students who love to dance, but are hesitant to perform.

    Culinary Kids Academy is so excited to return to Buckley's afterschool program for our 11th year! CKA is a revolutionary and amazingly FUN, educator-created, cooking program that empowers youth to expand their culinary comfort zones, increase their self-esteem, and encourages independence - all while learning standards-aligned academics...Oh, and they're having a BLAST while they do it! Be it Math, Science, History, Language Arts, Safety, or Nutrition, CKA utilizes an engaging and entertaining “stealth teaching technique” that has students completely unaware they are growing in vitally important and impactful ways. Students may think they are just having fun cooking phenomenally delicious recipes for an hour, but what they are truly doing is having experiences that will serve them well both socially and academically for a lifetime.

    A fun energetic dance class for both experienced and brand new dancers. Students will learn the history and origin of hip hop dance and will be introduced to both old and new school hip hop dance styles -- from the cabbage patch to the whoa. They will learn how to isolate, wave and pop. Each class starts with a warm-up focusing on hip hop techniques, followed by a fun, energetic, and challenging dance routine and educational games.

    Please note that there will not be a culminating performance for families during this shortened session, which makes the course ideal for students who love to dance, but are hesitant to perform.

    Students build new and different projects each week as they graduate from simple machines, to motorized mechanisms, to robotics with basic programming.   • Chess Club | Grades K-2

    Chess is an exciting educational experience. This class teaches students to play chess while stimulating problem-solving skills, analytical skills, and critical thinking skills. Each class has a lesson for beginners, a lesson for intermediate/advanced students, and playing time for everybody. Participants have the opportunity to earn certificates, medals, and trophies, and receive booklets to strengthen and reinforce the chess skills they are learning.

    A fun challenging dance class, where students will be introduced to various hip hop dance genres including old school, new school, locking, jazz funk, house, and more. Class starts with a warm-up focusing on strength, flexibility, and hip hop technique followed by a challenging dance routine. students will learn a brand new routine every few weeks to work on performance skills and retaining choreography.

  • Recess Revival | Grades K-2

    Research tells us that kids need more time to run and play. Join us for a relaxing and refreshing recess experience that will include both structured activities and supervised free play. Attention will be paid to being respectful and responsible community members, making new friends, being kind and inclusive, and mostly, having a ton of fun!  Students will be able to socialize and problem solve in a safe and supportive environment. Time for recess!

  • Wildlife Biology | Grades 2-5

    Taught by a wildlife biologist, students will explore the natural world, acquire tips and tools to spot wildlife while camping and on hikes, and learn all about animals’ natural habitats. Students will see live animals in class and learn techniques for locating and tracking animals in the wild!

  • Chess with Mr. Fox | Grades 3-5

    Are you in third through fifth grade and looking to sharpen your chess skills? Join Mr. Fox for this exciting enrichment program that teaches elementary-aged students the basics of chess. Students will improve their concentration and strategic thinking. Class time will include guided instruction as well as the opportunity to play with other opponents.

  • Diamond Games with Coach Holland | Grades 2-4

    This program will focus on the skills, drills, and thrills of games like Kickball, Tee Ball, and Baseball. The children will be in a safe and fun environment so that they can comfortably learn new games. We will work to develop hand-eye coordination, introduce and review throwing and catching mechanics, base running skills, and batting fundamentals. The children will learn teamwork, cooperation, problem-solving, and engage in mini-games. We will consistently reinforce having fun, trying your best, and being kind and respectful.

  • National Park Adventures with Mrs. Levitt | Grades 1-4

    The Buckley Griffin will be joining you on a wild adventure through some of the nation’s most beloved national parks. We will be virtually visiting a variety of national parks as well as experiencing indoor camping, hiking our nature trail, participating in national park scavenger hunts, art projects, and even skyping with a national park ranger! The Buckley Griffin will introduce you to the junior ranger program as well as conclude our program with the MacGillivray Freeman’s National Parks Adventure Movie. Be ready to become a national park expert with the Buckley Griffin!

    Science can be so much fun! We teach inquiry-based exploration with hands-on materials as students learn to become critical thinkers.   • Brain Games with Mr. Ayers | Grades K-5

    Bring your friends to end the week with fun and engaging games that will improve problem-solving skills, concentration, pattern recognition, and visual perception, while enhancing spatial recognition and increasing reaction time. Students will work alone and in pairs or groups to challenge themselves in a non-competitive and enjoyable way.

  • Robot Workshop: CarCreator | Grades 2-5

    Build 3 awesome cars to take home: the Solar Racer, the Balloon Buggy, and the Camaro Concept Car! Gain knowledge of motors and gears to create super cool vehicles such as Solar Powered Cars and Fold-N-Roll Racers that you’ll compete within the Parker-Anderson Grand Prix!
