An Individualized Approach

As students begin the latter phases of Buckley's college preparatory program, the college counseling office works with teachers, advisors, and coaches to guide each individual through the college admission process. During the first two years of Upper School, the college counseling team mainly meets with students to discuss big picture concepts that can influence college choices — taking academics seriously, getting involved in activities that are fun and meaningful, and expanding reading habits.

Beginning with junior year, however, the college counseling process becomes more focused. Because the process is often equal parts exciting and scary, we want to demystify it as much as possible and empower each family to make appropriate college choices based on comprehensive research. Our approach is highly individualized and student-centered. We challenge students to consider how their talents, abilities, and dreams can shape their college search and experience.

List of 4 items.

  • Setting Up Visits

Buckley uses SCOIR as a college search and college application management tool. We are also utilizing SCOIR’s high school visit calendar to schedule college representative visits for the fall 2022 semester. College representative visits will take place Monday through Friday during the school day, except on days school is not in session or when there are conflicting events on the school calendar.
  • Visit Schedule

For the fall 2022 semester, college representative visits will begin 30 minutes into the class and run to the end of the period. Please refer to this chart which outlines the visit schedule.

*Please be aware that if you are scheduling a visit at the end of the school day that pick-up traffic will cause a delay in your departure from campus. It may take up to 30 minutes to leave campus at the end of the day.
  • Visitor COVID Testing Policy

Buckley’s COVID testing policy for visitors requires that guests take a rapid antigen test on campus prior to interacting with students. College representatives will be directed to the Health Office prior to checking in with College Counseling. We advise that you arrive on campus approximately 30 minutes prior to your scheduled visit to ensure you’re able to complete COVID testing.
  • Virtual Visits

While we plan for all of our college representative visits to take place in person, we understand the continuously evolving nature of COVID has an effect on travel and access to high schools. If state, local or school guidelines require us to close the campus to visitors, we will move college representative visits to Zoom.

Conversely, if college representatives need to schedule a virtual visit to accommodate their schedule or for any other reason, we ask that you contact Ms. Jodi Pearlman at jpearlman@buckley.org so that we can try to accommodate a virtual visit.
