Your Contribution Makes a Difference

The Buckley Fund provides necessary dollars, outside of tuition, to support Buckley students and programs, every day of the year. Contributions to the Buckley Fund are directed to the school's highest priorities. We strive for success in annual giving by asking all of our Buckley constituents — current families, alumni, faculty and staff, grandparents, parents of alumni, and friends — to participate. The strength of the Buckley Fund is dependent on broad participation by every member of the community.

To contribute, or if you have questions, please contact Erin Fitzgerald, Assistant Director of Advancement, at efitzgerald@buckley.org.

List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • Why give?

The generosity of the Buckley community plays a large part in making The Buckley School exceptional, and for that we are extremely grateful. Tuition does not cover the cost of educating a child, and the Buckley Fund ensures that we maintain both the excellence of our program and its breadth, as required by our 4-Fold Plan of Education. From a practical perspective, we could raise our tuition to fully cover annual costs, but unlike gifts to the Buckley Fund, tuition is not tax deductible. All independent schools rely on donations from their community.

Gifts of all sizes help us reach our financial goal and our goal of 100 percent parent participation. We are all in this together. With 632 families, you are an important part of our success!
  • Who gives?

Parents, guardians, faculty, staff, grandparents, friends, and alumni. All are asked to help Buckley with a financial contribution.
  • How much?

Giving is a personal decision. We ask each family to give to the best of their ability; for some families, that amount is $100, for others it is $50,000.

Gifts of all sizes matter. The act of giving is important because contributions of all sizes add up to big differences in our students’ lives and the viability of Buckley. We urge you to give what you can. It is about your participation and your voice of support for the quality of education our students receive.
  • Where does the money go?

Gifts to the Buckley Fund affect everything — financial aid, classroom supplies, professional development for faculty, maintaining campus safety, and much more. These gifts allow us to meet our annual budget to fund everything from keeping the lights on to ensuring the best in technology for our students.
  • Where should I direct my gift?

Current Operations, also known as the "unrestricted fund," is the school's highest priority. This fund supports every area of the school, from faculty professional development to classroom supplies to athletic equipment and current financial aid.

Some families choose to direct all or part of their gift to one of the following funds as well.

    Financial Aid (Current Use)
Gifts to Financial Aid go into a current-use fund to support students who otherwise would not be able to attend The Buckley School. Gifts to Financial Aid support the school’s strategic goals of creating an inclusive and socio-economically diverse community for the benefit of all students.

    Financial Aid (Endowment)
A gift to the Financial Aid Endowment Fund is one where the principal donation is maintained in perpetuity, and the annual investment return is spent on future financial aid.

    Senior Class Legacy Fund
A gift to the Senior Class Legacy Fund is a gift to Buckley’s general endowment in honor of a senior class. All seniors are encouraged to give to this fund. With continued annual support from alumni, the Senior Legacy Funds and their impact will grow.

    Jordan Weiss Memorial Fund
Established in honor Jordan Weiss, a Buckley student who passed away during his junior year, this fund benefits an Upper School financial aid recipient who exhibits Jordan’s personal character traits, including kindness, loyalty, and humor.
  • I receive financial aid. Does this apply to me?

Yes. We ask that every Buckley family share the responsibility of the Buckley Fund. We strive for 100 percent participation, regardless of the size of the gift. Please give any size gift that is meaningful to you.
