Welcome Back to School!

On Saturday, September 10, Buckley students, parents, guardians, faculty, staff, and friends gathered on Gilley Field for this year’s Welcome Back to School Celebration.
Formerly called the Back-to-School Barbecue, the Welcome Back to School Celebration is an annual event hosted by the Parents’ Association. A “welcome!” to new families, and a “welcome back!” to old, the event is a wonderful way to kick off the new school year. After a busy first week back at school, families were able to relax in the cool fall air (a big improvement from last year’s heat!) and start the school year off on a fun and casual note.

As the younger children darted around the field playing games, new parents and guardians mingled with old, teachers chatted with students, and volunteers floated from booth to booth, making sure all was well. Street carts giving out Fatburger, snow cones, churros, hot dogs, and fries kept everyone full, while face painting, balloon animals, carnival games, and kickball kept the kids entertained for hours.

"What a fantastic way to welcome back all of our families to school. Gilley looked great and the weather was perfect. I loved seeing all the kids running around and having fun on the field. Thank you to the amazing team that put this together!” said Tova Cohen, Parents' Association President.

Over 25 parent volunteers assisted in welcoming families, selling uniforms at the Nearly New Uniform tent, organizing goods at the Parents’ Association merchandise table, making nametags, and setting up and breaking down the event.

The School’s next events are Back-to-School Nights, the first Parents’ Association Meeting, Street Fairs, and our Open Houses. So, here’s to continuing to build community and forming lasting relationships throughout the school year and beyond!
