Over 100 Griffins Serve Up Food, Warmth, and Thanks

Over 100 members of the Buckley community – parents, guardians, and students – answered the call to help feed the firefighters battling the Skirball fire on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of last week.
“It was incredible, the kids were out here at 4:30 in the morning and dove right into serving food,” said Buckley Parents’ Association President Bridget Smith.

Winnie Tong, current parent and co-owner of Freshlunches, contacted fellow Buckley parents to set up a sign-up genius to organize the volunteers.

Buckley families, along with families from John Thomas Dye and Curtis School, served breakfast, dinner, and packed lunches for the hundreds of firefighters who came from Utah, Washington, and all over California to fight the blazes.
“Never in my 28 years of service has a child served me at base camp,” said Hector Hernandez, Battalion Chief at the Los Angeles Fire Department.

“We wanted every firefighter to know how thankful we were for them, so everyone, Buckley families, John Thomas Dye families, and Curtis families, wrote letters to every single engine company that came to help,” said Bridget. “The kids made a banner too… it was the least we could do.”

Thank you to everyone that helped this weekend!
