Two Middle School Casts Dazzle in One-Acts

by communications intern Miles G. '25
The final theatrical performance of the year has wrapped! Last week, the Middle School plays The Cinematic Life of Darcy and Box were performed in the black box Theatre Lab.

The two shows focused on the life of middle schoolers from two different standpoints. The Cinematic Life of Darcy follows Darcy as she goes through the troubles of middle school and plays out different movie-like scenarios in her head. Box focuses on the metaphorical boxes that we put ourselves into during school.

Jeanne Simpson, director of the Middle School productions shares, “Since I am new to Buckley, I wanted to honor the Buckley tradition of performing two one-act plays for their spring production, but I wanted to choose two plays that I had never directed or seen before so I could create something original with my student cast and crew. The actors in our very talented ensemble have a wide range of stage experience. Some of them are in their first play and some of them are already working actors.”

While the entire cast is made up of Middle School students, some of Buckley’s Upper School students have lent a hand as part of the design team. “I have also loved collaborating with Upper School students, including my assistant director Justina R. and the design team of Miles G., Max G., and Antonio T.,” says Simpson. “Their work is at a professional level, and it’s wonderful for the Middle School students to see them in action!” It was a great week of performances!
