Speaker and Educator Tim Wise Visits Buckley Parents and Upper School Students

Addressing the need for coalition building and allyship, Tim Wise spoke to parents/guardians and Upper School students in a talk titled, "Toward a More Perfect Union: Leading with Hope in the Face of Rising Hate."
"Inequality is not a glitch in the system," he told Upper School students. "It is the system." Calling upon his personal experience growing up Jewish in Nashville, Tennessee where, Wise says, every four-way stop presented three churches and "something else like a Walgreen's," he emphasized the need not to play the "oppression Olympics," in which he says, "There is no winner."

Everyone deserves "solidarity in the place where they got hurt," he said in his session with parents, which Buckley hosted along with The Wesley School. "And everyone needs to offer solidarity where they enjoy advantage."

The DEI Office hosted the events held on Thursday, February 2 in the CCA.
