Meet the Lower School Student Council

After the start of a new school year, K-5 students have cast their votes to elect the 2021-2022 Lower School Student Council.
Get to know the new student council members, their goals for the year, and what they look forward to:

Jacob M., President
“I’ve always looked up to fourth and fifth graders and thought, “Wow! I want to be on the student council.” My favorite part about being on student council is the community, because you sit down and talk to people you might not see a lot.”

Maya Z., Vice President
“I am looking forward to the new ideas we come up with to help the Lower School. I hope to learn how to be a better leader and grow my social skills.”

Talia A.K., Secretary
“I am looking forward to helping Buckley and working with others. I hope to learn more about working in a group. For example, if there is a challenge, we can brainstorm ideas together.”

Woody C., Treasurer
“I am excited to listen to everyone’s ideas and help Buckley become an even better place. I find it really fun meeting new people and participating in meetings.”

Layla B., Historian
“I am excited to take pictures and use skills my dad taught me. I hope to learn more about being part of a team and working with others on ideas.”

Tyler M., Community Relations
I am looking forward to creating new ideas and making posters to put around campus.
I want to learn more about how the student council works.”

Council members are advised by kindergarten teacher Riley McQueen and associate teacher Christine Terry.

“They were chosen by their peers to lead them and guide them,” says kindergarten teacher and Student Council co-chair McQueen.

“They need to remember they are a representative and this is a position of honor. It’s a really fun thing they get to do, but it’s important to remember their choices and their actions are bigger than them now.”
