Iowa Writer's Workshop on Campus

We loved having our Upper School writers on campus for our annual Iowa Writer’s Workshop!
We couldn’t travel to the University of Iowa this year, but luckily its graduate student instructors (aka, the Buckley Fellows) came to us.

Students engaged in creative non-fiction reading and writing and read their work for feedback. Classes included:
  • "Television Teens" by Sarah Adler
  • "Personality Under Construction" by EmmaJean Holley
  • "Stories from the Hood" by Jamila Osman
  • "Lost from the Record" by Andy Tan-Delli Cicchi
  • "Kill Yr. Idols" by Gabriela Tully Claymore
  • "Shuffle, Pause, Skip" by Amelia Gramling
Click here for a description of these classes. Students also joined a video tour of Iowa City and a special edition of Speakeasy, the NWP Graduate Student Reading Series. Finally, lunch outside in the CCA Courtyard rounded out the day.

Thanks to everyone who made this workshop such a success! In particular, thank you to Mitch Kohn and Maria O'Driscoll for organizing, reimagining, and running our amazing program for students on campus this year in a safe, socially-distanced way. Thank you for bringing Iowa and the workshop's team of inspiring, creative instructors to Buckley, and for giving budding writers a chance to explore and develop their voices! Also, kudos to Cyrus A., Yasmin A., Oliver D., Justin J., Jisung L., Marley M., Tess M., Ben P., Jane S., John S., Storm S., Katie S., Ilaria V.-G., Vivienne H.-F., Paulina J., Ella R., Jem B., and Barbara N. for participating and sharing your creativity and skill for the writing process. You all made the two days come alive. Kudos to you all!!!
