Women's History Month & Nowruz at Buckley

During Women’s History Month, we strive to honor the accomplished and visionary women who have helped build our global community, including those whose contributions have not been adequately recognized and celebrated.
Providing our students with the opportunity to examine the intersection of women's history with race, ethnicity, political affiliation, socioeconomic status, ability, and sexual orientation is a great way of recognizing all female figures in history. We encourage you to make the “invisible visible”, during this month and throughout the year!

Lower School
In the Lower School, students and families were invited to submit videos for the assembly on March 12, sharing a unique fact about women in their family and culture; family history and heritage with an emphasis on female-identifying family members; or an inspiring and notable female role model in history or in their family. Second grade student Lake S. shared her family's inspiring story -- click here to check it out!

Middle/Upper School
In Middle School, students participated in an afternoon assembly -- led by students Zoha P., Madison P., and Leelu L. with the mentorship of Clarissa Shinn and Irie DeLilly -- that honored and uplifted women in our community. Their event featured fascinating facts about influential women throughout history, scholarship about the impact of Title IX on girls in athletics and what it means to be a feminist, and an intersectional look at women with diverse identities. Grades 6-8 came together for this event.

Then, Upper Schoolers Elle K. and Cameron M. -- led by their Persian Club advisor, Afsaneh Nury -- developed MUS advisory content that highlights the Nowruz holiday. Within, they offered a rich history of the cultural celebration, student paintings, poetry, and a musical piece.
