Spirit Day is a time to stand with LGBTQ+ youth. On the heels of last week's DEI symposia, the Buckley community engaged in programming around Spirit Day to celebrate diversity and uplift different identities.
In honor of Spirit Day, the Genders & Sexualities Alliance (GSA) curated some meaningful content about the history and impact of Spirit Day in the LGBTQ+ community. In Middle and Upper School, students shared this content and engaged in discussion based on guiding questions and are invited to "go purple" on October 15 to visibly show solidarity with LGBTQ+ youth and take part in the largest, most-visible anti-bullying campaign in the world.
Also as part of our Spirit Day programming, Lower School DEI Coordinator Sabine Abadou helped organize a special remote performance from Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles, a locally based queer mariachi group, for all our students to enjoy.

Upper School students of Spanish 3 Honors, Spanish 4 Honors, and AP Spanish attended the dress rehearsal of the opera, El último sueño de Frida y Diego, and stopped for lunch at the Pueblo de Los Angeles on Olvera Street.
