Yasmine P. Creates Her House

Student Yasmine P. created an online platform called Her House, which encourages young women to share their voices on different issues in the world today. It is a space where young women can come together to read or write articles, listen to interviews by other female voices, or ask questions in the forum section.
“I was inspired to create Her House when I first started getting extremely interested in government, politics, and public policy issues,” Yasmine explained. “I have always loved listening to different political commentators and their thoughts on current topics; however, I often found myself hearing men speak and voicing their beliefs, while women were constantly left out of the conversation. I then started to observe the extreme misogyny more closely towards women in power, specifically women in high positions in office. I also noticed the large gap between the number of men and women who held these powerful positions in government, where men hold a very obvious majority.”

“Growing up, my mom would also often share her thoughts and opinions on current public policy issues, though constantly telling me to research on my own to discover what my personal stance was,” Yasmine added. “Her guidance on how to research and develop my own opinions on political issues is what greatly helped me to find my voice, and I hope Her House does the same thing for other young women.”

Amazing work, Yasmine! If you would like to learn more about Her House, you can check out the website at herhouseus.com and the Her House Instagram @herhousepolitics.
