Meet Our New Faculty & Staff

We are thrilled to have the following teachers, staff, and administrators join our team this year!

Alicia Murphy, IT Support Technician
Alicia Murphy is Buckley’s new IT Support Technician. Most recently Alicia was a project coordinator at Amazon/Ring in Santa Monica where she provided support for testers and engineers. In addition, Alicia has experience working as a technical expert with Apple at the Genius Bar and has a background in radio as an on-air personality.

Anat Fernandes, Science Teacher
Summer school students may remember Anat Fernandes, who taught Chemistry at Buckley for incoming tenth grade students in 2019. Most recently, Anat has taught Chemistry and AP Biology at Providence High School in Burbank; she’s also taught at The Wesley School, Brentwood School, and New Roads. Anat received a bachelor of science with a double major in biology and psychology and a minor in chemistry at Texas Woman’s University (TWU).

Avigail McClelland-Cohen, Social Science & English Teacher
Avigail McClelland-Cohen has joined Buckley as a social science and English teacher. Avil received a bachelor of arts degree in political science at American University and recently completed a PhD in communication from the University of California, Santa Barbara. While at UCSB, she developed and taught courses as a teaching associate and assistant and taught at worked as an adjunct professor at nearby Santa Barbara City College.

Brittany Daniels, Dance Teacher
Brittany Daniels comes to Buckley with years of dance experience and expertise in modern dance, ballet, stretch, hip hop, jazz, and ballroom. Most recently, she taught dance at Maranatha High School where she also choreographed and directed for Maranatha’s musicals, winter showcases, and spring showcases. Additionally, she has choreographed and executed numerous performances for community outreach, including: Azusa Pacific Dance Company, Community Theater of La Verne, and Dunamix Dance Project. She is currently a company dance member at Lineage Dance Co.

Gillian Bush, Head of the Upper School
Gillian Bush comes to Buckley this year from Windward School, where she served as the Associate Director of the Collegiate Division (grades 11-12) and a college counselor and science teacher since 2017. Her strong commitment to equity and fairness has resonated throughout her career in her work as an AP teacher, administrator, and college counselor. Gillian also taught at Polytechnic School and Harvard-Westlake School and served as executive director of Partnership for Success!, a collaboration between public and independent schools in Pasadena that funds summer enrichment for public school students. Her additional experience as a courtroom lawyer and restaurant owner have given her the tools, perspective, and empathy to handle everything from restorative justice to customer service!
 
Letreanna Jackson, Interim Science Department Chair
Letreanna is Buckley’s Interim Science Department Chair. Letreanna received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Pre-Health from Baylor University, a Master of Education from Midwestern State University, and a Master of Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She has held numerous leadership positions, working as an administrator at Cambridge-Harvard Summer Academy, the Professional Learning Communities Lead at Hirschi High School, and the faculty advisor for the Black Girls Student Union at Campbell Hall. Her areas of expertise include culturally relevant pedagogy, STEM curriculum development, social-emotional learning, and educational research.
