Celebrating Pride Month

Anthony Gaskins
It’s Pride month! Pride is a month focused on the celebration of community and the freedom to be unapologetically one’s self.
It is important to use this month as yet another moment of education, reflection, and acknowledgement of the many struggles members from our LGBTQ+ community have overcome to be accepted for who they are.

As we face such challenging times, the original organizers of this month were intentional about the collective fight for equality and as we celebrate the triumphs of the modern gay rights movement, we can be empowered by the Stonewall Uprising of 1969 that fueled such great change in this country.  It is with great admiration and respect that we recognize the increasing accomplishments and influence the LGBTQ+ community has provided to our world.

Below are few resources to continue your education, along with ways in which you can get involved in the celebration:

Organizers of this year’s LA Pride have moved toward a peaceful assembly and protest in solidarity with the Black community at Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Ave. in Los Angeles, near the site where the first-ever permitted Pride Parade took place. The protesters will march to West Hollywood and end at the intersection of San Vicente and Santa Monica Blvds.
