Spirit Day

On Thursday, October 17, Lower, Middle, and Upper School students were invited to replace any item of their uniform with purple clothing to stand against bullying, in support of LGBTQ+ youth, and in recognition of Spirit Day.
“Spirit Day is a means of speaking out against LGBT bullying and standing with LGBT youth, who disproportionately face bullying and harassment because of their identities.” (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or GLAAD).

On Spirit Day, Lower School students attended an assembly in which their peers shared their family stories. Students Lila C., Ben D'A., Kaison M., Owen A-D., and Jonah V. delivered wonderful and inspiring words -- they are incredible champions for LGBTQ rights!

On Friday, October 18, the GSA Club presented assemblies to the Middle and Upper School divisions, sharing personal stories about homophobic and hurtful language, and the importance of allyship, kindness, and inclusion. The assemblies also included a short presentation by Buckley alum, Michelle Chidoni ’01 from the Mattel company, about the vital importance of representation and inclusion in children’s toys.
