Keep It Kind Month

Chuck Neddermeyer
Students in the Middle School got to enjoy their own special programming during the recent Fall Social Justice Symposium series.
The Power of Words was presented to students in grades 6-8, and they were able to explore how the language we use on and off campus has deep implications. Upper School panelists shared their experiences surrounding how others’ words impacted their own development. The Middle School then created colorful, empowering posters that will be displayed around campus, reminding our community that this is a campus rooted in love and respect.

Building upon this programming is a month-long “Keep-it-Kind” effort that focuses on kindness, joy, and community. Students, staff, and faculty will participate in weekly activities that continue to bring our community closer together, including:

Thursday, October 10 | Everyone Has A Name
Students and teachers started the day by creating name tags with their names on them during Advisory. Everyone wore name tags for the entire day and was encouraged to greet everyone they come in contact with by name, especially those who they do not usually address.

Week of October 14 - October 18 | Nobody Eats Alone
Students and teachers are encouraged to eat with someone new at lunch every day this week, and make sure that no one is eating by themselves. The goal is to break out of cliques and socialize with new people!

Monday, October 21 & Thursday, October 24 | Joy Jar
In Advisory, teachers are encouraged to write down joyful and kind actions on slips of paper and create a "Joy Jar." Next week, advisees will pull out the cards and must complete the actions, then pass the cards onto someone else. At the end of the week, cards will be displayed on campus for everyone to see!

Monday, October 28 | Random Acts of Kindness Reflection
A banner or board will be set up near the entrance of campus where students' Joy Jar cards will be displayed. Three random cards will be selected and students will win a prize.
