Meet Our New Faculty & Staff!
We are thrilled to have the following teachers, staff, and administrators join our team this year!
Top row, from left to right:
Anthony Gaskins holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and a master's in fine arts from Harvard. He comes to Buckley from the Calhoun School in New York City, where he served as the Boys of Color Affinity coordinator as well as taught humanities and social studies. Anthony will teach Intersections of Identity and Social Justice in Upper School, and join the Admission Office as an assistant director.
Carly Zarrow is a Buckley graduate, class of 2009. After earning a bachelor's in psychology from Occidental College, she received graduate degrees in educational psychology and school psychology, along with her certification as a school psychologist from Loyola Marymount. She has spent the last two years in the Santa Cruz City School district. Carly will be working in Middle School and the fifth grade as the Student Support Specialist.
David Román, a Buckley alum class of 1999, graduated from USC with a BA in American Studies and Ethnicities and from Cal State Northridge with a master's in secondary education, mathematics. Having taught in all three divisions and as a coach at Buckley from 2006 to 2015, David returns directly from Westmark School, where he has taught math for two years. We are pleased to welcome him back as a Middle School math teacher, Upper School social science teacher, and Upper School robotics advisor.
Michael Senna, varsity basketball coach and Middle School math teacher, comes to Buckley from Providence High School where he assistant coached varsity basketball and led the JV basketball to two league championships. At Providence, he was also the director of student activities and taught math and social science. Prior to that, Michael was the head varsity basketball coach at Archbishop Hannan. He is a graduate of Loyola University in Covington, Louisiana.

Melinda Asimakos joins Buckley as a Middle and Upper School dance teacher. A graduate of Pepperdine University, Melissa has worked independently in dance education, as a principal dancer and choreographer with the Cantinas Dance Project, and as the director of Pepperdine’s Dance in Flight company.
Terra Holman, our new Middle School dean, comes to Buckley from Trinity School in New York City, where she was a math teacher, coach, and diversity coordinator. Terra is a graduate of Barnard College majoring in Africana studies and holds a master's in math education from City College of New York. She will also be teaching Middle School robotics.
Cliff Mason II, who will be teaching Upper School social science and coaching our Upper School cross country team, earned his bachelor's degree at Stonehill College in North Easton, Mass. He also holds a master's in educational leadership from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a doctorate in jurisprudence from Valparaiso University in Indiana. Cliff has worked both as a law clerk and social science teacher, most recently at Caitlin Gabel School in Portland, Oregon.
Patrick Sayer, a graduate of Cal State Long Beach in physical education with an associate's degree in social and natural sciences from Moorpark College, will be teaching PE and coaching Buckley’s swim team. He has most recently taught physical education in the Oxnard School District.
Eric Peterson is a graduate of UC Berkeley with a master's in English from the University of Chicago. Eric has most recently taught tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade English at Cincinnati Country Day School. He will be teaching Upper School English at Buckley.

Rhea Fowler is a long-term substitute for our orchestra teacher Vince Houser while he is on leave. Rhea attended Buckley for Middle School before transferring to and graduating from the Los Angeles High School for the Arts. She went on to earn a bachelor's of music degree from the Boston Conservatory and a master's in music/violin from UCLA. She teaches in Buckley’s Conservatory program and works regularly as a studio musician and performance artist.
James Sainz, who will be teaching Upper School science, earned a BS in physics from the University of San Francisco and an MS in physics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He comes to Buckley from the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Massachusetts, where he taught physics and math since 2015.
Brooklyne Gipson, a history major at UCLA, also holds a master's in American media and pop culture from Arizona State and a master's in digital social media from the Annenberg School of Communications at USC. Most recently, she has been a teaching and research assistant at USC and is a doctoral candidate there in communications. Brooklyne will be teaching Upper School English and Middle School journalism.
Joan Canzone, our new associate director of college counseling, comes to us directly from Notre Dame High School, where she served as lead senior counselor for the past eight years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Hunter College, an MS in school counseling, and an MS in school building leadership from Mercy College.
Shiye Yang joins Buckley as a Middle and Upper School Mandarin Chinese teacher. A native speaker from Shanghai, Shiye most recently taught at the Pasadena Waldorf School. Shiye has a bachelor's degree in Chinese language and literature from Beijing Normal University and a master's in bilingual education from Loyola Marymount.

Adit Dan is a clinical psychologist with a BA from UCLA in Hebrew and Jewish Studies. She has worked at several mental health facilities and counseling centers, and as a program consultant at The Wise School. Most recently, she has worked in Buckley’s Admission Office. Adit will be teaching AP Psychology.
Cydney Junius returns to Buckley this year, having been our communications associate from 2012 to 2015, and a first grade associate teacher from 2015-2017. Cydney holds a bachelor's in journalism from Hampton University, a master's in creative writing from Antioch University, and a credential in preliminary multiple subject teaching from Cal State Los Angeles. She has most recently worked at Santa Clarita Valley International Charter School as a kindergarten/first grade teacher.
Jeremy Fox joins the Lower School this year as a second grade associate teacher. Having worked most recently as a second grade teacher at Brandeis School of San Francisco, Jeremy has a BA from the University of Oregon at Portland, a K-8 teaching credential, and a teaching certificate from Hebrew Union College in Jewish Day School Teaching.
