  • Buckley Breakers: Break Dancing

    Participants will learn various styles of hip hop dance with a focus on breakdancing. More than just dance moves, campers will develop personal style, gain confidence, and learn how to freestyle and improvise. Campers will learn the history of breakdancing and technique. In a safe environment, Up Rocking, Footwork, Freezes, and Power Moves will be taught. This class will culminate at the end of the week with a short performance.

  • CAMP FULL: Sports Spectacular

    This program is designed for the children to explore, have fun, and feel successful in their abilities. Students will engage in games and activities that reinforce what is covered in primary physical education. We are focused on drills, skills, and thrills.  All the games that we play are small sided and modified for every student to find success. The objectives are learning, having fun and experiencing multiple sports while at summer camp at Buckley.

  • Kids in the Kitchen

    Calling all culinary artist!  Learn to make easy, kid-friendly treats from scratch in this fun, hands-on class. Campers will measure, mix, and decorate both savory and sweet treats while incorporating fruits and veggies for a healthy twist. In addition to desserts, campers will explore with some breakfast items. Prior experience in the kitchen not required. Participants will receive their own small baking kit along with a recipe book of all items made that week.

  • Kindergarten Adventure

    Kindergarten Adventure is an educational and fun-filled half or full day program, taught by Buckley's very own Lower School teachers and carefully designed with the needs and developmental considerations of our youngest campers in mind. Campers will engage in activities including arts and crafts, storytelling, imaginative play, games, athletics and much more. Participants MUST be entering Kindergarten in Fall 2018.
     
    Half Day Camp: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
    Full Day Camp: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

  • Star Clay: "May the force be with you"

    Using their imagination and a lot of clay, campers will use the method of hand building to bring their favorite characters from the movie and book series to life. The painted pieces will be glazed and fired in a kiln to take home.

  • VEXcellent Robotics

    Are you curious about robotics?  Want to learn how to build and program your own robotic creation! Students will use the VEX Robotics system for the entirety of the course. At the end of the week, we will have robot challenges including but not limited to races, obstacles, goals, and battles. No prior robotics experience required.

  • Boys & Girls Basketball

    Elevate your game! This camp is designed to teach children how to become well-rounded and team-oriented basketball players. The session will offer intense, specialized basketball instruction with an emphasis on the fundamentals of basketball including dribbling, passing, shooting, and rebounding. The camp also provides campers of all ability levels a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

    Get ready to join the Resistance or be pulled into The Dark Side! We'll explore the galaxy through arts and crafts, indoor/outdoor games and activities that are sure to enthrall young fans. Throughout the week campers will begin as Padawan’s and will be challenged through daily games, activities, and missions to finish as a Jedi. May the force be with you!

Campers will improve their keyboarding skills, create graphics, write a book, learn to program a game using scratch and explore a variety of apps on the I Pads. Creativity, passion, and innovations will be shared.

  • The Great Outdoors

    This camp is designed to inspire, encourage, and promote a sense of passion and appreciation for the outdoors. Campers will participate in numerous activities intended to develop the skills and knowledge for all types of exploration-from The Buckley School's backyard to the highest peaks of the Andes. Our goal is to prepare and provide campers with the necessary tools to safely and actively engage in an outdoor lifestyle. Activities cover outdoor sports such as backpacking and kayaking while including the essential foundation of safety and preparedness. Campers will learn everything from map orienteering and wilderness first aid to the history of our great National Parks.

  • Beginning Swim

    This is for children who are comfortable with their face in the water and able to swim 15-20 feet without a floatation device. It teaches stroke skills on front, back, and side as well as rotary breathing and beginner’s breaststroke. We provide fun activities that will allow them to develop a confident stroke while enjoying the water!

  • CAMP FULL: Travel Camp

    Get your passports and imaginations ready for a fun-filled, magical trip around the world! Students will be traveling the world and be experiencing the life and culture of different countries using literature, art, music, dance, games, cooking and language. This gives each student the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity and the world in which we live.

  • Get Your "Kicks" Soccer Camp

     “Get your Kicks’ is designed for our younger soccer enthusiast to develop physical coordination and will prepare players for AYSO, recreation leagues, and club team opportunities. Players will learn fundamentals, shooting, and goalkeeping skills. Activities include partner work, small group dynamics, skilled
    related games, and scrimmages to build confidence and a love for the game. All players will be grouped by ability to ensure the optimal balance of fun, challenge and skill development. No prior experience is necessary.

  • Let's Paint!

    Through hands-on activities, students learn about the origins of painting and how it has changed over time. We’ll make paintings in a variety of styles with brushes and other, more unconventional tools. Students experiment with making their own paints, adding textural materials, altering the consistency of the paint, color mixing, and more.

  • Scratch-Interactive Media

    Scratch is a programming language where children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animation with people from all over the world. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically.

Week 4: July 2 - July 6

  • Art on Canvas

    Students learn about painting on stretched canvas, canvas paper, and canvas board using acrylics with and without mediums. We will gain inspiration, learn techniques, style, and vocabulary of such artists as Van Gogh, Monet, Modigliani, Picasso, and Warhol.

  • Cheer & Pom Dance

    Cheer & Pom dance will teach students a combination of dance styles involving hip hop, jazz, lyrical cheer motions and technical work such as leaps, turns, kicks, splits and jumps while using poms. Campers will learn routines using a variety of dance styles. This camp will culminate at the end of the week with a short performance.
     
    Grades: 1-5

  • Improv Theater

    In this camp, campers will get on their feet participating in fun improv games and skits designed to foster scene building and storytelling. Participants will discover their “voice” and turn their ideas into performance. We’ll explore performance poetry (culminating in a Slam Poetry Session) and even record radio drama style podcasts. It’s a fun class where students will build their confidence, hone their acting chops and learn to express themselves, artistically.

  • Camp "Move It!"

    This camp is designed to promote a healthy, active lifestyle among children and inspire kids to find the love of fitness. This camp will include activities such as yoga, cardio, music and movement, jump rope, balance activities, and water aerobics. We have created this program to provide a fun and safe environment where positive behaviors can be learned at an early age.

  • Griffin Soccer

    This camp is created for the more serious & experienced soccer players. Our knowledgeable coaches will provide training that will strengthen each player's soccer abilities. Activities and drills will include individual technical skill development, tactical play, foot work, develop shooting skills, scrimmages, and game related situations to enhance their level of play and gain confidence.

  • Wizards and Wands Camp

    Hop onto Platform 9 ¾ and catch a ride to your new adventure. Get ready to play a game of ‘Quidditch’ with your fellow wizards and witches. Create your own invisibility cloak, wave your magic wand and jump onto your broomstick to fun. Put on your Potter glasses and see a world full of magic. The camp will consist of indoor/outdoor games, trivia, art, potions, and dueling.

  • Art: Re-Purposed Sculpture

    From concept to creation! In this class, students will design and build sculptures using objects originally used for something else. From foam and plastic to wire and nylon, Students will have access to different materials to realize their designs.

  • Buckley on Broadway

    Calling all musical theatre lovers! Come and learn some of Broadway’s most exciting choreography in a staged mash-up of The Great White Way’s biggest musical numbers. From Hamilton to Newsies, campers will get to dance the styles of Andy Blankenbuehler, Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins and more. Grab your dancing shoes and bring your brightest smiles, because this summer, it’s show time!
