  • Advanced Hockeytime with Coach Holland

    Thursday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., first through fifth grade

    This class is designed for the true hockey enthusiast. Stick handling, shooting, passing and goaltending are covered along with aspects of team play. Be ready to engage in high powered and fun hockey activities.

  • Architecture Academy

    Wednesday, 3:10 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through fifth grade

    Part math, part science, and part art, this STEAM class has it all!  Using assorted architectural & bridge building model sets, this class teaches basic drafting, scale, symmetry, proportion, and geometry. Students will build iconic models and learn about famous architects as they explore their creativity!

  • Art Adventures

    Wednesday 1:30 - 3:10 p.m., kindergarten through third grade

    Children learn about famous artists such as Georgia O’ Keefe, Henri Matisse, and Andy Warhol as they make wonderful creations each week using a wide variety of artist's materials. Art is fun--come join the adventure!

  • Art Rebel

  • Basketball and Soccer with Coach Cole

    Tuesday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through second grade

    Students will learn the FUNdamental skills of basketball and soccer while participating in engaging lead up activities and mini-games. Students are encouraged to bring an extra snack so that they can eat prior to when the session begins.

  • Brain Games with Mr. Ayers

    Friday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through second grade

    Bring your friends to end the week with fun and engaging games that will improve problem-solving skills, concentration, pattern recognition and visual perception, while enhancing spacial recognition and increasing reaction time. Students will work alone and in pairs or groups to challenge themselves in a non-competitive and enjoyable way.

  • Cheer and Pom Dancing

    Tuesday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through second grade

    This session will teach students a combination of cheer and dance styles involving hip hop , jazz, lyrical cheer motions and technical work such as leaps, turns, kicks, splits and jumps while using poms. Students will learn routines weekly using a variety of dance styles.

  • Chess Club

    Thursday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through fifth grade

    We introduce chess to students in a fun and exciting way!  For all students and all levels, we teach students to play chess and how to succeed in school by stimulating their problem-solving skills, analytical skills, and critical thinking.  Includes exclusive booklets and worksheets.

  • Computer Club with Mrs. Borggrebe

    Tuesday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through fifth grade

    Explore educational software using iPads and desktop computers under Mrs. Borggrebe's expert guidance. Students become familiar with the many exciting ways to use technology. Important components of this class include project-based learning and tailoring activities to meet individual needs.

  • Culinary Kids Academy: Chopped & Culinary Kids Academy: Chopped Masters

    Wednesday 1:30 - 3:10 p.m., second grade through fifth grade
    Wednesday 3:10 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten and first grade

    Culinary Kids Academy is a phenomenally empowering, educational and fun experience that weaves standard based math, science, and history, along with subjects such as farming and nutrition lessons into actual cooking classes! Not only that, but CKA also offers our take on the Food Network’s popular competition cooking show, “CHOPPED!” This aspect of CKA’s curriculum teaches students to take the skills they’ve learned in class and actually creatively and independently apply them. As a result, not only will the students prepare delicious food, but they’ll also build responsibility, problem solving and teamwork skills.  Please note that the advanced session of this course is offered for second through fifth grade at 1:30, while the introductory course at 3:10 is perfect for younger chefs in kindergarten and first grade.

  • Dare to Draw with Ms. Richards

    Tuesday 2:30 – 4:30 p.m., first grade through third grade

    Sharpen your pencils and ignite your imagination! Ms. Richards is excited to share her love of art and literature in this fun and heartfelt program. Each week, a fresh and engaging children’s book will be presented, followed by a step-by-step drawing activity inspired by the beloved story. In a warm, tranquil learning atmosphere, technical expertise will be emphasized and creativity encouraged. Students will build a diverse portfolio of their masterpieces to take home and cherish for years to come.

  • Diamond Games Deluxe with Coach Holland

    Monday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., first grade through fifth grade

    This program is designed for students who love to play kickball, tee ball, baseball and much more.  The sessions will cover base running, rules, hitting, fielding, strategies, and most importantly, lots of fun diamond games.  It will be skills, drills and thrills in this engaging and fun packed afterschool session.

    It’s the end of the week! Let’s burn some energy and get fit on the field.  Bring your game ideas and your instructors will make them a reality. Time is also well spent going over healthy habits, such as physical activity and nutrition basics. Your imagination is the limit in this fun and energetic program to celebrate your child’s good health, as well as the beginning of the weekend!

  • Griffin Sports Rebel

    It's that time of the season again. Come join us for drills, fun, and games playing sports like flag football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, and soccer. This season we will focus on flag football and basketball.

  • Griffin Swim Club with Coach Hehn

    Monday 2:30 – 4:30 p.m., first grade through fifth grade

    The Griffin Swim Club is a program designed for swimmers from first through eighth grade. The focus is on mastering basic skills for the four competitive strokes: freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke. Proper body positions and balance are stressed along with kicking and basic drills. Starts, turns and mental skills for training to advance from level to level are emphasized. Technique is the primary focus with endurance, power and speed playing increasingly larger roles.
    Please note:
    • Swimmers must have some swimming ability. This is not a program to teach students how to swim.
    • Lower School students who are members of the Griffin Swim Club will be dismissed from the Bell Tower at 4:30.
    Optional Swim Meets will be held (Dates TBA)

  • Hip Hop and Intermediate Hip Hop

    Wednesday 1:30 - 3:10 p.m.
    Wednesday 3:10 - 4:30 p.m.

    Hip Hop (kindergarten through second grade) is a fun and energetic dance class for both experienced and brand new dancers. Students will learn the history and origin of hip hop dance and will be introduced to both old and new school hip hop dance styles - from the running man to the dab. They will learn how to isolate, wave and pop. Each class starts with a warm up followed by a dance routine and educational games. At the end of the session students will have the opportunity to showcase their dance and acquired skills in a culminating performance.
     
    Intermediate Hip Hop (third through fifth grade) extends the skills taught to the younger students, and is suitable for all skill levels. Students will learn the history and origin of hip hop dance and will be introduced to various hip hop genres including old school, new school, locking, stepping and more. They will learn how to isolate, wave and pop.  At the end of the session students will have the opportunity to showcase their dance and acquired skills in a culminating performance .
     
    Adi Licht recently moved to Los Angeles from New York where she taught dance for over a decade.  She also has many years of experience running the after school and enrichment dance programs at PS11 in Chelsea, Manhattan.  Since moving to L.A., Adi has been teaching hip hop in several schools around the city through STAR Education. She also teaches various dance genres at Lashon Academy, and starting in September,  will be the dance teacher at Adat Ari El Day School.

  • Hogwarts Academy

    Wednesday 3:10 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through fifth grade

    Perfect your magic skills in this interactive, creative, spell-binding class! Find out which house you belong to and learn how to make potions, use your wand, identify creatures, and more! Witches and wizards of all ages will graduate the Academy with the supplies and skills to use their magic for good.

  • Karate

    Tuesday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through fifth grade

    Karate comes from the Japanese words “kara” and “te” meaning “open hand”.  It is a form of martial arts that uses hand strikes, kicking and deflection techniques.  Karate is a fun way for participants to achieve fitness and focus.  Martial arts teach students both discipline and socialization skills in a non-competitive and safe environment.

  • Knitting and Crochet

    Monday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., first grade through fifth grade

    This class is for the novice knitter or someone with a little experience who would like to learn more. Students will cover the basics, like how to hold the knitting needles, how to cast on stitches, the knit and the purl stitch, how to cast off stitches and how to read a knitting pattern. Crochet skills will be taught as well, so students can pick their preferred medium. Students will make several projects over the semester to practice and reinforce their newly acquired skills.

  • Medieval Clay

    Monday 2:30 - 4:30p.m., kindergarten through fifth grade

    Come get your hands dirty with inspiration taken from the Middle Ages. Students will explore some popular themes from almost 1,000 years of culture and art. Castles, dragons, coats of arms, and more will be created using basic hand building techniques. The clay will be fired in a kiln off site and all finished art pieces will be brought home at the end of the term.

  • Mock Trial, Public Speaking, and Debate

    Wednesday 1:30 - 3:10 p.m.- third grade through fifth grade

    Are you a person of passion and conviction, with a love for critical thinking and dialogue? In this class, students learn to use logic and other rhetorical tools to support their positions and to express themselves succinctly and skillfully.   Students learn to walk and talk with assuredness and purpose, overcome jitters, and deliver speeches with confidence and animation!

  • Ninja Warriors Obstacle Course with Coach Conley and Coach Philman

    Monday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., first grade through fifth grade

    The Ninja Warrior program is a unique and fun way for students to challenge themselves mentally and physically afterschool. Students will navigate a set of physical obstacles that  includevrunning, climbing, jumping, crawling and balancing elements. The location of the class will vary depending on the obstacle course set-up, but will most likely be held on Gilley Court or the LS playground. Come out, be active and feel what it’s like to be a Ninja Warrior!

  • Running Rebel

    This sports program allows students to participate in a wide array of sports with an emphasis on fun! Students engage in an afternoon of enjoyable learning while being active at the same time. What could be better for a young athlete?

  • Sewing

    Thursday 2:30 – 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through fifth grade

    Learn to hand sew and embroider with Miss Shannon's Sewing.  All new projects for fall.  First project, a circular pouch teaches how to sew on a button.  A variety of skills will be taught with each engaging project.  All materials and supplies are included.

  • Splashball: Introduction to Water Polo with Coach Conley and Coach Philman

    Friday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., first grade through fifth grade

    Splashball is designed to introduce the sport of water polo to children. The intent is to provide basic skills and understanding of the sport in a recreational format. Although water polo is known for its toughness and endurance, Splashball harnesses all the fun, dynamic aspects of the game in a safe, easy-to-learn aquatic experience that will motivate kids to swim.   • Spy Kidz- Secret Agents

    Wednesday 1:30 - 3:10 p.m., kindergarten through fifth grade

    Take fingerprints, decode secret messages, search for clues, go on a scavenger hunt, and decipher our Escape Room! Explore the fascinating world of solving mysteries and develop observation and reasoning skills.  Every student also receives their very own ID Badge and detective kit.

  • Super YADA (Youth Academy of Dramatic Arts)

    Monday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through fourth grade

    Kids saving the world one song at a time. Just because they are small doesn't mean they aren't powerful! Join YADA for this musical revue of songs of empowerment, courage, friendship, and the magic of believing you CAN. The session will end with an unforgettable rock concert where kids will don their capes and show you their superpowers.

    YADA has been offering comprehensive theatrical training to youth in Los Angeles for over 20 years. YADA offers a safe and exciting environment in which students can learn, grow, and enrich their lives while practicing the skills of theatrical performance.

  • TechKidz: Coding Wizards

    Create your own animations, programs, and games with MIT’s Scratch, Python, Sploder, and more. Computer programming helps with brain development, math skills and logic, not to mention being tons of fun!

  • Woodworking- A Workshop for Kids

    Tuesday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through fifth grade

    This class is a fun-filled introduction into the world of woodworking, specifically designed for beginners. Students will use fine motor skills to forge a strong connection between the hands and the mind. They are encouraged to try new ideas, exercise their imagination and creativity, and are allowed to make mistakes in a safe environment. With the guidance of an experienced artist/woodworker, children learn how to use tools safely, effectively, and (ultimately) independently. Students will have the opportunity to build a number of take-home projects that increase in complexity as they progress through their session.
