  • Art Rebel

    Wednesday 1:30 - 3:05 p.m., kindergarten through fifth grade

    Art Rebel is an ARTstravaganza. Students enjoy creating original art with "outside the box" mediums. Each week is something new, exciting and unique. Anything goes in this fun filled course!

  • Basketball and Soccer with Coach Cole

    Tuesday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through second grade

    Students will learn the FUNdamental skills of basketball and soccer while participating in engaging lead up activities and mini-games. Students are encouraged to bring an extra snack so that they can eat prior to when the session begins.

  • Baseball and Softball Clinic with Coach Runnels

    Wednesday 1:30-3:05 pm- third through fifth grade

    This Baseball and Softball skills class works on all of the individual and team aspects of the game. Hitting, pitching, fielding, throwing and base running will be covered. Students will learn the details and proper techniques of the game with fun challenges and team play.

  • Brain Games with Mr. Ayers

    Friday 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., kindergarten through fifth grade

    Bring your friends to end the week with fun and engaging games that will improve problem-solving skills, concentration, pattern recognition and visual perception, while enhancing spacial recognition and increasing reaction time. Students will work alone and in pairs or groups to challenge themselves in a non-competitive and enjoyable way.

  • Cartoon Rebel

    Monday 2:30 pm- 4:30 pm- kindergarten through fifth grade

    This is a three sequenced class. The first classes focus on drawing a favorite, or invented, hero in your own comic book or manga. The second classes build in monsters to the comic you create. The final weeks take your characters "off the page". Students learn the basics of Stop-Motion Animation using toys to create their own movies...individual and collaborative ones.

  • Ceramics: The Lost City of Atlantis

    Monday 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm- kindergarten through fifth grade

    Using their imaginations, students will dive in and explore the underwater mysteries of the lost city of Atlantis. Creations will include sunken temples, sea monsters, mermaids, and more. The clay will be fired in a kiln off site and finished art pieces will be brought home at the end of the term.

  • Chess Club

    Thursday 2:30 pm- 4:30 pm - kindergarten through fifth grade

    Chess is an exciting educational experience. This class teaches students to play chess while stimulating problem solving skills, analytical skills, and critical thinking skills. Each class has a lesson for beginners, a lesson for intermediate/advanced students, and playing time for everybody. Participants have the opportunity to earn certificates, medals and trophies, and receive booklets to strengthen and reinforce the chess skills they are learning.

  • Compassion in Action with Mrs. Levitt

    Wednesday 3:10pm-4:30pm- kindergarten through fifth grade

    Each week, students will learn about a charitable organization in the greater Los Angeles area, across the country, or around the world.  After engaging in thoughtful discussions, the children will have an opportunity to do fun, hands-on projects to help the charities further their missions in addition to learning how to turn their own compassion into action. Community Service hours will be awarded for each week the students attend this course.

  • Computer Club with Mrs. Borggrebe

    Tuesday 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm - kindergarten through fifth grade

    Explore educational software using iPads and desktop computers under Mrs. Borggrebe's expert guidance. Students become familiar with the many exciting ways to use technology. Important components of this class include project-based learning and tailoring activities to meet individual needs.

  • Culinary Kids Academy- Chopped (K-1) & Culinary Kids Academy- Chopped Masters (2-5)

    Wednesday 1:30 pm - 3:10 pm – second grade through fifth grade
    Wednesday 3:10 pm - 4:30 pm – kindergarten and first grade
    Culinary Kids Academy is a phenomenally empowering, educational and fun experience that weaves standard based math, science, and history, along with subjects such as farming and nutrition lessons into actual cooking classes! Not only that, but CKA also offers our take on the Food Network’s popular competition cooking show, “CHOPPED!” This aspect of CKA’s curriculum teaches students to take the skills they’ve learned in class and actually creatively and independently apply them. As a result, not only will the students prepare delicious food, but they’ll also build responsibility, problem solving and teamwork skills.  Please note that the advanced session of this course is offered for second through fifth grade at 1:30, while the introductory course at 3:10 is perfect for younger chefs in kindergarten and first grade.

  • Drum Circle

    Tuesday 2:30pm- 4:30pm- kindergarten through fifth grade

    Come and get your groove on every Tuesday. Drum Circle fosters creativity, focus and mindfulness. Let’s all connect in a musical way. Each student will receive their own drum and the class will end with a culminating performance for family and friends.

  • Friday Fitness Rebel

    Friday 2:30 pm-4:30 p.m., kindergarten through fifth grade
     
    It’s the end of the week! Let’s burn some energy and get fit on the field.  Bring your game ideas and your instructors will make them a reality. Time is also well spent going over healthy habits, such as physical activity and nutrition basics. Your imagination is the limit in this fun and energetic program to celebrate your child’s good health, as well as the beginning of the weekend!

  • Games, Games, Games with Coach Holland

    Monday 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm- kindergarten through fourth grade

    This afterschool program will cover many of the games and activities that we study in physical education. We will play games a variety of sports like hockey, diamond games, volleyball, tennis, cricket and many more. The children will work on skill development, sportsmanship, and team work. We will also play many fun tag games and participate in fitness activities. This program is designed for the children to have lots of fun and find success at every turn.

  • Griffin Cheerleading with Miss Hager

    Tuesday 2:30pm-4:30pm- third through fifth grade
     
    Get ready to ignite your school spirit in this exciting and engaging program! Miss Hager is thrilled to share her love of cheerleading and years of experience as a competitive coach with all of you! Each week, students will learn motions, jumps, chants, dances, and beginner (prep-level) stunts in an encouraging and uplifting atmosphere. A strong focus will be put on proper technique, skills, safety, and FUN! Let’s go, Griffins!
    Each participant will receive a cheer bag filled with poms, a shirt and a cheer bow.

  • Griffin Swim Club

    Monday 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm – kindergarten- fifth grade

    The Griffin Swim Club is a program designed for swimmers from kindergarten through eighth grade. The focus is on mastering basic skills for the four competitive strokes: freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke. Proper body positions and balance are stressed along with kicking and basic drills. Starts, turns and mental skills for training to advance from level to level are emphasized. Technique is the primary focus with endurance, power and speed playing increasingly larger roles.
    Please note:
    • Swimmers must have some swimming ability. This is not a program to teach students how to swim.
    • Lower School students who are members of the Griffin Swim Club will be dismissed from the Bell Tower at 4:30.

  • Hip Hop and Intermediate Hip Hop

    Wednesday 1:30 - 3:05 p.m. - kindergarten through second grade
    Wednesday 3:10 - 4:30 p.m. - third through fifth grade

    Hip Hop (kindergarten through second grade) is a fun and energetic dance class for both experienced and brand new dancers. Students will learn the history and origin of hip hop dance and will be introduced to both old and new school hip hop dance styles - from the running man to the dab. They will learn how to isolate, wave and pop. Each class starts with a warm up followed by a dance routine and educational games. At the end of the session students will have the opportunity to showcase their dance and acquired skills in a culminating performance.
     
    Intermediate Hip Hop (third through fifth grade) extends the skills taught to the younger students, and is suitable for all skill levels. Students will learn the history and origin of hip hop dance and will be introduced to various hip hop genres including old school, new school, locking, stepping and more. They will learn how to isolate, wave and pop.  At the end of the session students will have the opportunity to showcase their dance and acquired skills in a culminating performance .
     
    Adi Licht recently moved to Los Angeles from New York where she taught dance for over a decade.  She also has many years of experience running the after school and enrichment dance programs at PS11 in Chelsea, Manhattan.  Since moving to L.A., Adi has been teaching hip hop in several schools around the city through STAR Education. She also teaches various dance genres at Lashon Academy, and starting in September,  will be the dance teacher at Adat Ari El Day School.

  • Hockeytime with Coach Holland

    This class is designed for the true hockey enthusiast. Stick handling, shooting, passing and goaltending are covered along with aspects of team play. Be ready to engage in high powered and fun hockey activities.

  • LEGO Challenge!

  • Mock Trial, Public Speaking, and Debate

    Wednesday 1:30 - 3:10 p.m.- third grade through fifth grade

    Are you a person of passion and conviction, with a love for critical thinking and dialogue? In this class, students learn to use logic and other rhetorical tools to support their positions and to express themselves succinctly and skillfully.   Students learn to walk and talk with assuredness and purpose, overcome jitters, and deliver speeches with confidence and animation!

  • Ninja Warrior and Team Challenges with Coach Conley and Coach Philman

    Monday 2:30pm-4:30pm- first through fifth grade

    The Ninja Warrior program is a unique and fun way for students to challenge themselves mentally and physically afterschool. We will have a set-up of a series of physical obstacles that students will navigate through during class which can include, running, climbing, jumping, crawling and balancing elements. The location of the class will vary depending on the obstacle course set-up but will most likely be held on Gilley Court or the LS playground. Come out, be active and feel what it’s like to be a Ninja Warrior!

  • Robot Building Workshop

    Wednesday 3:10pm-4:30pm first grade-fifth grade

    Build three awesome robots to take home: the Insectoid Robot, the Brush Robot, and the Table Top Robot! Learn engineering principles such as gears, wheels and axles as you design amazing robots to battle against others in becoming the Battle-Bot Champion! Robots are subject to change based on availability.

  • Running Rebel

  • Sculpting with Mr. Miller

    Friday 2:30 pm-4:30 pm- second through fifth grade

    Students will learn about using armatures and multiple building strategies to give form to their imaginations with durable and user-friendly plaster gauze and paper mache.

  • Sewing

    Thursday 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm – kindergarten through fifth grade

    Learn how to hand sew and embroider with Miss Shannon's Sewing.  All new projects include a ladybug coin bag, ladybug packpack, heart banner, embroidered sampler and the super awesome Yeti that comes in fushia, electric blue, slime green and light pink.  All materials and supplies are included.

  • Slime Rebel

    Let’s play some ball and have a blast! Students will be put through their paces each week alternating between T-ball, Dodgeball and various Tag Games. Emphasis will be on sportsmanship and cooperation with peers. When everyone has fun, everyone is a winner.

  • TechKidz: Video Game Design!

    Students will learn how to design and modify their own exciting arcade-style video games!  They will learn how to control characters, objects and outcomes in their games as they increase the difficulty level and add more features.

  • Weird and Wacky Science

    Come join us for some fun with Weird and Wacky Science. New, cool, and hands-on experiments each week! This class is filled with fun science activities: amazing crystals, magnetism, static electricity, gravity, and so much more. Experience the Scientific Method as never before.

  • Woodworking: A Workshop for Kids

    Tuesday 2:30pm-4:30 pm- Kindergarten through fifth grade

    This class is a fun-filled introduction into the world of woodworking, specifically designed for beginners. Students will use fine motor skills to forge a strong connection between the hands and the mind. They are encouraged to try new ideas, exercise their imagination and creativity, and are allowed to make mistakes in a safe environment. With the guidance of an experienced artist/woodworker, children learn how to use tools safely, effectively, and (ultimately) independently. Students will have the opportunity to build a number of take-home projects that increase in complexity as they progress through their session.

  • World Dance

    From African dance to stepping and Latin fusion, this fun upbeat dance class introduces students to various dance styles from around the world. Students will learn the history and origin of each dance style they are introduced to. Each class starts with a warm up followed by a dance routine and educational games.
