Middle and Upper Schools Application Process

Thank you for your interest in joining The Buckley School community. The  deadline for applying for admission to the Middle and Upper Schools (grades six through twelve) is December 15.

Steps to Apply to Buckley's Middle & Upper Schools

  • Step 1: Submit an Inquiry Form

    Please click here to add your family to our admission database. 
  • Step 2: Apply online

    Applications are due by December 15The student must complete the Student Application section without assistance. Please upload a recent photograph of the applicant as well as a family photo. Apply online now.
     
    The $125 nonrefundable application fee must be charged using a credit card. If you feel this fee is an extreme hardship, please call the Admission Office at (818) 461-6709. In the case of separation or divorce, it is necessary for the school to have signatures and parent information for both parents.

    We also accept the Standard Application Online (SAO) from SSATB (Secondary School Admission Test Board).  Please click here to begin setting up your profile and to apply for admission online using the SAO. Please note: Only one application should be submitted. There is no need to submit the Buckley application form if you have already submitted one via the SAO. Your SAO application form will satisfy all of the school's information requirements.
  • Step 3: Schedule an interview

    Look for an email from Buckley with instructions on how to schedule an interview using our online system. Please schedule your interview as soon as possible; interview times fill up quickly.
  • Step 4: Testing

    Students who apply to Buckley may take either the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) or SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) standardized admission test. Admission tests must be completed between October 2018 and the first week of February 2019. Applicants to grades eleven and twelve may submit results from the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) in lieu of the ISEE or SSAT. All students must submit either an admission test or PSAT result to Buckley. All test results must come to Buckley directly from the testing company. We will not accept scores from an applicant’s family or consultant.

    ISEE Testing
    This test is designed to assess a students’ academic achievement and is produced by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB). In order for Buckley to receive the scores from the testing company, please enter Buckley’s school code when you register. Buckley's School Code for ISEE: 051628. You can download a PDF copy of the book “What to Expect on the ISEE” or purchase the book online. Buckley recommends that student applicants take the ISEE no later than the first weekend in February. Buckley is an ISEE test site on Saturday, January 26, 2019.

    Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT)
    The SSAT was founded in 1957 by a small group of independent school admission officers. Today, the SSAT is administered in more than 1,085 test locations in 100-plus countries around the world. The SSAT website http://www.ssat.org/ is very helpful and has a wealth of information about the test. Buckley’s School Code for SSAT: 1945. Buckley recommends that student applicants take the SSAT no later than the first weekend in February. Buckley is an SSAT testing site on January 12, 2019.  Buckley is not a walk-in testing location.
  • Step 5: Submit Required Forms

    Buckley requires teacher recommendations and school transcripts as part of the application process.

    Helpful hints:
    • Please print the applicant’s name on the required forms.
    • A parent/guardian must sign the confidential recommendation and release forms.
    • Give the forms to the applicant’s teacher or school official. The teacher/school will mail the information directly to Buckley.
    • If the applicant’s English and mathematics teacher is the same, please ask another academic teacher or last year’s homeroom teacher to complete one of the recommendations.
    • All recommendation forms and school records are due no later than Friday, January 18, 2019.
