Banned Books Week, sponsored by the American Library Association, is an important opportunity for Buckley to advocate for intellectual freedom, personal autonomy and choice, and for the value of intellectual resources. We do it to remind our students that some of the books they're familiar with are limited or forbidden in other places in the country, and around the world. For example, it was just this year that Harry Potter was banned in a Catholic school in Tennessee. So, we celebrate the freedom to read every year!
Buckley students and faculty went on a rollercoaster of emotions as motivational speaker Andre Bradford gave us a glimpse into his life at the Fall 2021 DEI Symposium through his art form -- slam poetry.
The Buckley School’s DEI Symposia kicked off this week -- a series of sessions designed to create spaces for deepening and broadening our community's understanding of the experiences of underrepresented groups.
