  • Art Rebel

    Art Rebel is an ARTstravaganza. Students enjoy creating original art with "outside the box" mediums. Each week is something new, exciting and unique. Anything goes in this fun filled course!

  • Baseball and Softball Clinic with Coach Runnels

    Wednesday 1:30-3:10 p.m. | Third grade through fifth grade

    This Baseball and Softball skills class works on all of the individual and team aspects of the game. Hitting, pitching, fielding, throwing and base running will be covered. Students will learn the details and proper techniques of the game with fun challenges and team play.

  • Board Games with Ms. Francis

    Monday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through fifth grade

    Join us for a fun time with friends learning some classic board games, including Clue, Sorry, Connect Four, Scrabble, Apples to Apples, and many more! Board games play a crucial part in children’s development and growth by boosting critical thinking as well as creating a fun space to practice learning social and communication skills.

  • Brain Games with Mr. Ayers

    Friday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through fifth grade

    Bring your friends to end the week with fun and engaging games that will improve problem-solving skills, concentration, pattern recognition and visual perception, while enhancing spatial recognition and increasing reaction time. Students will work alone and in pairs or groups to challenge themselves in a non-competitive and enjoyable way.

  • Ceramic Gift Making

    Monday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through fifth grade

    By rolling, pinching and sculpting clay, students will make gifts for family and friends inspired by as many holidays as we can fit in. Each gift will reflect upon a different holiday celebrated throughout the year. Handmade gifts are always thoughtful, ceramic homemade gifts are thoughtful AND utilitarian. Each one-of-a-kind piece will be glazed, fired in a kiln, wrapped, and returned at the end of the session.

  • Cheer and Pom Dancing

    Friday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through second grade

    This session will teach students a combination of cheer and dance styles involving hip hop, jazz, lyrical cheer motions and technical work such as leaps, turns, kicks, splits and jumps while using poms. Students will learn routines weekly using a variety of dance styles.

  • Chess Club

    Thursday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through fifth grade

    We introduce chess to students in a fun and exciting way! For all students and all levels, we teach students to play chess and how to succeed in school by stimulating their problem-solving skills, analytical skills, and critical thinking. Includes exclusive booklets and worksheets.

  • Compassion in Action with Mrs. Levitt

    Wednesday 3:10-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through fifth grade

    Each week, students will learn about a charitable organization in the greater Los Angeles area, across the country, or around the world.  After engaging in thoughtful discussions, the children will have an opportunity to do fun, hands-on projects to help the charities further their missions in addition to learning how to turn their own compassion into action. Community Service hours will be awarded for each week the students attend this course.

  • Culinary Kids Academy- Chopped (K-2) & Culinary Kids Academy- Chopped Masters (3-5)

    Wednesday 1:30-3:10 p.m. | Third grade through fifth grade
    Wednesday 3:10-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through second grade

    Culinary Kids Academy is a phenomenally empowering, educational and fun experience that weaves standard based math, science, and history, along with subjects such as farming and nutrition lessons into actual cooking classes! Not only that, but CKA also offers our take on the Food Network’s popular competition cooking show, “CHOPPED!” This aspect of CKA’s curriculum teaches students to take the skills they’ve learned in class and actually creatively and independently apply them. As a result, not only will the students prepare delicious food, but they’ll also build responsibility, problem solving and teamwork skills.  Please note that the advanced session of this course is offered for third through fifth grade at 1:30pm, while the original course at 3:10 is perfect for younger chefs in kindergarten through second grade.

  • Dare to Draw with Ms. Richards

    Tuesday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | First grade through third grade

    Sharpen your pencils and ignite your imagination! Ms. Richards is excited to share her love of art and literature in this fun and heartfelt program. Each week, a fresh and engaging children’s book will be presented, followed by a step-by-step drawing activity inspired by the beloved story. In a warm, tranquil learning atmosphere, technical expertise will be emphasized and creativity encouraged. Students will build a diverse portfolio of their masterpieces to take home and cherish for years to come.

  • Friday Fitness Rebel

    Friday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through fifth grade
     
    It’s the end of the week! Let’s burn some energy and get fit on the field.  Bring your game ideas and your instructors will make them a reality. Time is also well spent going over healthy habits, such as physical activity and nutrition basics. Your imagination is the limit in this fun and energetic program to celebrate your child’s good health, as well as the beginning of the weekend!

  • Games, Games, Games with Coach Holland

    Monday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | First grade through fourth grade

    This afterschool program will cover many of the games and activities that we study in physical education. We will play games a variety of sports like hockey, diamond games, volleyball, tennis, cricket and many more. The children will work on skill development, sportsmanship, and team work. We will also play many fun tag games and participate in fitness activities. This program is designed for the children to have lots of fun and find success at every turn.

  • Griffin Swim Club with Coach Hehn

    Monday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through fifth grade    
                   3:00-4:30 p.m. | Sixth grade through eighth grade
     
    The Griffin Swim Club is a program designed for swimmers from kindergarten through eighth grade. The focus is on mastering basic skills for the four competitive strokes: freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke. Proper body positions and balance are stressed along with kicking and basic drills. Starts, turns and mental skills for training to advance from level to level are emphasized. Technique is the primary focus with endurance, power and speed playing increasingly larger roles.
    Please note:
    • Swimmers must have some swimming ability. This is not a program to teach students how to swim.
    • Lower School students who are members of the Griffin Swim Club will be dismissed from the Bell Tower at 4:30.
    • Optional Swim Meets will be held (Dates TBA)

  • Hip Hop and Intermediate Hip Hop

    Hip Hop: Monday 2:30-4:30 p.m. and Wednesday 1:30-3:10 p.m.
    Intermediate Hip Hop: Wednesday 3:10-4:30 p.m.
     
    Hip Hop (kindergarten through second grade) is a fun and energetic dance class for both experienced and brand new dancers. Students will learn the history and origin of hip hop dance and will be introduced to both old and new school hip hop dance styles - from the running man to the dab. They will learn how to isolate, wave and pop. Each class starts with a warm up followed by a dance routine and educational games. At the end of the session students will have the opportunity to showcase their dance and acquired skills in a culminating performance.
     
    Intermediate Hip Hop (third grade through fifth grade) extends the skills taught to the younger students, and is suitable for all skill levels, though prior dance experience is recommended. Students will learn the history and origin of hip hop dance and will be introduced to various hip hop genres including old school, new school, locking, stepping and more. They will learn how to isolate, wave and pop. At the end of the session students will have the opportunity to showcase their dance and acquired skills in a culminating performance .
     
    Due to high demand, Ms. Adi has added an additional day of K-2 Hip Hop. She will cover the same material both days. In the interest of giving every student interested in dancing with Ms. Adi the opportunity to enroll, we ask that you pick just one session to begin with. If there are spots remaining when the session begins, and you would like to enroll for a second day, we can make arrangements at that time. Thank you for your flexibility.

  • Hogwarts Academy

    Wednesday 3:10-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through third grade

    Perfect your magic skills in this interactive, creative, spell-binding class! Find out which house you belong to and learn how to make potions, use your wand, identify creatures, and more! Witches and wizards of all ages will graduate the Academy with the supplies and skills to use their magic for good.

  • Kickball and More with Coach Holland

    Join Coach Holland for drills, skills, and thrills. Students will gain confidence in Kickball and other playground favorites. As always, the emphasis will be on fun and sportsmanship.

  • Krafty Kinders with Mr. Fox

    Tuesday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten

    Spend the afternoon crafting and creating in the kindergarten classroom. Students will have the opportunity to develop their fine motor skills and other school readiness tasks with activities like cutting, grasping, stringing, beading, gripping and more in a relaxed and engaging environment.

  • Lego Robotics

    Wednesday 1:30-3:10 p.m. -| Kindergarten through third grade

    Students build new and different projects each week as they graduate from simple machines, to motorized mechanisms, to robotics with basic programming. They will learn all about engineering principles such as gears, wheels, axles, levers and pulleys. This class is as fun as it is educational.

  • Lower School Homework Club

    Lower School students will receive general academic support and tips on study skills to facilitate their completion of homework assignments and stay on top of upcoming projects, in a quiet and well-structured environment.

  • Middle School Homework Club

    Tired of doing all your homework at home? Then sign up for our brand new Middle School homework club! Students will receive general academic support and tips on study skills while completing their work in a quiet and well-structured environment.

  • Mock Trial, Public Speaking, and Debate

    Wednesday 1:30-3:10 p.m. | Third grade through fifth grade

    Are you a person of passion and conviction, with a love for critical thinking and dialogue? In this class, students learn to use logic and other rhetorical tools to support their positions and to express themselves succinctly and skillfully.   Students learn to walk and talk with assuredness and purpose, overcome jitters, and deliver speeches with confidence and animation!

  • Mythology with Ms. McQueen

    Tuesday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | Second grade through fifth grade

    Come on a journey with Ms. McQueen through Ancient Greece as we learn about heroes, creatures, and legends of their society. You can look forward to acting, drawing, playing, creating and more as you experience Ancient Greece.

  • Ninja Warriors Obstacle Course with Coach Conley and Coach Philman

    Monday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | First through fifth grade

    The Ninja Warrior program is a unique and fun way for students to challenge themselves mentally and physically afterschool. We will have a set-up of a series of physical obstacles that students will navigate through during class which can include, running, climbing, jumping, crawling and balancing elements. The location of the class will vary depending on the obstacle course set-up but will most likely be held on Gilley Court or the LS playground. Come out, be active and feel what it’s like to be a Ninja Warrior!

  • Rocket Science, Astronomy and Chemistry!

    Tuesday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | First grade through fifth grade

    Ready, Set, Blast Off! Explore the Universe as we launch everything from Film Canister Rockets, to Water Bottle Blasters, Business Card Boomerangs, and much more! Our adventures will take us to Titan, Mars and a Galactic Cluster as we learn about comets, constellations and our galaxy. After that, we will switch over to amazing chemistry, to conduct physical and chemical experiments to learn what makes them work. We will make our own desiccators and Elephant toothpaste, grow copper sulphate crystals, and get ready for an instant snowstorm! All reactions are done outdoors and students wear protective goggles.

  • Running Rebel

  • Sewing

    Thursday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through fifth grade

    Learn to hand sew and embroider with Miss Shannon's Sewing. All new projects for fall. First project teaches how to sew on a button. Projects include a side pouch, a mini felt dog, fall image embroidery, and a super fluffy bear. All materials, supplies and sewing kit are provided.

  • Soccer with Coach Cole

    Students will learn the FUNdamental skills of soccer while participating in engaging lead up activities and mini-games.

  • Splashball: Introduction to Water Polo with Coach Conley and Coach Philman

    Friday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | First grade through fifth grade

    Splashball is designed to introduce the sport of water polo to children. The intent is to provide basic skills and understanding of the sport in a recreational format. Although, water polo is known for its toughness and endurance, Splashball harnesses all the fun, dynamic aspects of the game in a safe, easy to learn aquatic experience that will motivate kids to swim. If you love the water and you love sports come join us and have some fun!

  • STEAMLab: 3-D Printing & Design

    Wednesday 3:10-4:30 p.m. | First grade through fifth grade

    In STEAMLab, students become 21st century innovators! Working collaboratively, they will design intricate and custom 3D creations. In addition to STEAM skills, this class builds teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking- essential tools for your child’s future. Watch as the student’s designs go from their minds to their hands.

  • TechKidz: Coding Wizards!

    Wednesday 1:30-3:10 p.m. | Third grade through fifth grade

    Create your own animations, programs, and games with MIT’s Scratch, Python, Sploder, and more. Computer programming helps with brain development, math skills and logic, not to mention being tons of fun!

  • Wild Buckley with Mr. Ayers

    Wednesday 3:10-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through fifth grade

    Be ready to take a hike with Mr. Ayers, and explore the nature in and around the Buckley campus. You will have the ability to press pause and enjoy the birds, insects, flora and fauna that add to the beauty of our lovely school.

  • Woodworking: A Workshop for Kids

    Tuesday 2:30-4:30 p.m. | Kindergarten through fifth grade

    This class is a fun-filled introduction into the world of woodworking, specifically designed for beginners. Students will use fine motor skills to forge a strong connection between the hands and the mind. They are encouraged to try new ideas, exercise their imagination and creativity, and are allowed to make mistakes in a safe environment. With the guidance of an experienced artist/woodworker, children learn how to use tools safely, effectively, and (ultimately) independently. Students will have the opportunity to build a number of take-home projects that increase in complexity as they progress through their session.

  • World Dance

    From African dance to stepping and Latin fusion, this fun upbeat dance class introduces students to various dance styles from around the world. Students will learn the history and origin of each dance style they are introduced to. Each class starts with a warm up followed by a dance routine and educational games. At the end of the session students will showcase their dance and acquired skills in a special dance extravaganza.
