Since we first began remote learning on March 11, 2020, we have opened and closed the Buckley campus in strict compliance with L.A. County Department of Public Health guidelines. Because we are a K-12 school all on one campus, there have been separate rules for different grades--and those have shifted from week to week.
As of now, March 4, 2021, we are open for the following:
Grades K-5 for full days, every day! Every grade gets P.E. once a day, in addition to recess. Lunch is outside. Specialist classes (art, dance, theatre, and music) are taught via Zoom.
As of March 11, 2021, we are thrilled to welcome back Grade 6 for full days, every day!
ATHLETIC TRAINING, GRADE-LEVEL SMALL GROUPS and other ACTIVITIES
We have also been welcoming back other small groups of students, for outdoor on-campus activities, athletic training, play rehearsals, our Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and to pilot Zoom classes from campus.
We host drive-through testing every Wednesday for all students, faculty, and staff on the Buckley campus.
FACULTY TEACHING and FACULTY/STAFF CHILDREN
Any faculty member who wishes to “Zoom” from campus and get a school-provided lunch may do so. Any faculty or staff member with a school-age child may also bring them to campus to engage in remote learning from our Middle/Upper School Library. Lunch is also provided for them.
WILL MORE GRADES COME BACK IN THE FUTURE?
After Spring Break in early April, we are hopeful that county restrictions will loosen to allow us to bring back all of our Middle and Upper School students for some form of hybrid learning. Because of physical distancing requirements, we don’t have the classroom space to house every class in every grade at the same time. A hybrid model might include some grades coming to campus certain days and then switching off with other grades.
