Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about The Buckley Gala

List of 22 items.

  • What is the Roaring Twenties! Gala?

The Roaring Twenties! Gala is a fundraising dinner event that features numerous opportunities for guests to support The Buckley School. After the Annual Fund, the Gala is the school’s largest fundraising event yet only happens every other year. This year the event at the Vibiana will feature an online silent auction, a live auction, and not-to-be-missed entertainment!

All of the proceeds from the Gala will support our financial aid and teacher education programs.
  • Who is planning this year’s event?

We are excited to announce the Roaring Twenties! Gala is chaired and managed by parent volunteers Jodi Elhami, Ai-Vy Miller, and Dorsa Parsi.

We have an incredibly diverse group of parents who are also acting as Team Leaders for various aspects of the event. Please contact us at gala@buckley.org if you would like to help the Gala Committee that day.
  • How much will a ticket cost?

The ticket price will be $220 per person. Sponsorships start at $650.00 and offer a range of benefits, including tickets, faculty sponsorships, signage opportunities, and premium table placement.
  • What if I cannot afford the ticket price?

This event is both a fundraiser and a friend-raiser! We want everyone in our community to be able to attend. Anyone who cannot afford the ticket price should email Dale Bartels at dbartels@buckley.org.
  • What is the theme of the Gala?

This year’s theme is a 1920s-inspired evening ala the Great Gatsby, hence the title, Roaring Twenties!
  • Is there a dress code?

Themed attire is highly encouraged, but not mandatory. When selecting your themed attire, please be mindful as to not offend any culture, ethnicity, or reinforce any stereotypes.
  • How can I pick everyone that sits at my table? What is a sponsorship?

Sponsorships range from $650 to $10,000 in value. Many sponsor packages include a table or group of tickets that you can use for your guests or friends. The benefits of sponsoring a table also include premiere table location/placement and other upgrades depending on the sponsorship package purchased. For more information, email pa@buckley.org. With that said, every effort will be made to honor seat requests.

Additionally, we try to sit families with the grades selected at registration.
  • Will we have to pay for valet parking?

No, valet parking is included in the price of your ticket. To avoid lines when coming or going, Lyft and Uber are another option.
  • What are your plans for after-dining entertainment?

We have an amazing evening planned for everyone. You will not want to miss one minute of the evening! We have special theme-inspired performances as well as a DJ that will invite you to come swing onto the dance floor and cut loose, if you choose!
  • Why should I get involved?

The Roaring Twenties! Gala is an opportunity for parents to do something meaningful to support our children’s education. By joining the team, you have an opportunity to use your talents, resources and special skills to make the Gala a success – both as a party/social event and as a fundraiser! Our goal is 100% participation by the families in our school. This is truly a parent-led endeavor, and we want everyone to join!
  • How can I get involved?

We need all the help we can get! We are seeking volunteers who can solicit auction items, assemble baskets, write auction descriptions, create visuals, build displays, hang artwork, follow up with donors, seek sponsors for our event, complete administrative tasks, help set up and tear down the event on April 23, 2022. Anyone interested should email gala@buckley.org and let us know when they can help, their talents, resources and areas of interest. We will put the appropriate team leader in touch with them.
  • Is there an auction?

Yes! The Roaring Twenties! Gala consists of a live and silent auction chaired by Setta El Dabe,  Danica Ross, and Sarah Sawaya. We are welcoming all sorts of in-kind contributions to this aspect of the Gala. The bidding for the silent auction will open one week prior to the Gala, and the live auction will be conducted live at the event. If you have questions about donating, please email the Auction Committee ASAP at auction@buckley.org.
  • How will the silent auction bidding work?

Prior to the Gala, families will receive an email with a link to register and shop the auction. Browsing, bidding, and winning are all done on your mobile device, so register through the auction mobile site and receive updates for newly revealed item categories, alerts when you’ve been outbid, and even when you win an item! The auction will close at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022.
  • What are you accepting/seeking donations for?

We are seeking donations of items for the silent auction and live auction. Restaurant gift certificates, tickets to sporting, concert and theater events, vacation home and timeshare stays, trips, celebrity experiences (i.e. film/TV set walk-on or meet and greets), gift certificates for goods and services, wine, liquor, special experiences, and tours are all samples of items that we are seeking. Designer clothing and accessories and jewelry are also popular!
  • How can I get the letter and donation form?

Printed copies have been mailed to families and are also available in the Lower and Middle school offices on campus as well as at the December and January PA meetings. You can download the forms through our website at https://www.buckley.org/about/parents-association/auction
  • Are donations tax-deductible?

The Buckley School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and thus donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Donors who submit the in-kind donation form will receive an acknowledgment for tax purposes and should consult their tax advisor for more information.
  • Should I buy something to donate?

Parents should never purchase an item to donate to the auction. We would rather a cash donation be made instead. It’s rare for an item to sell for full value, and even then we pay a processing fee on each sale. Every place you frequent is a prime candidate for solicitation.  Please carry the solicitation package with you and give it to our manicurist, masseuse, hair stylist, florist, and favorite restaurant spots.
  • I can’t deliver the item to the school. How do I get it to you?

Email auction@buckley.org and the Auction Committee will arrange a volunteer to pick the item up from you.
  • What is the difference between a solicitor and a donor?

A solicitor is a person who makes contact with a business and asks them for a donation. The business or person who actually owned the item that is being donated is the donor.
  • How much am I required to donate?

Families are not required to donate any items to the auction, but our goal is 100% participation, through sponsorships, auction items, bidding, or simply attending the event!
  • Can you use my item in a specific manner?

Sometimes people want their items used in a particular manner. Please write the restrictions on the donation form. We will call and talk to you if we need more information in order to best market and showcase your donation.
  • Are there items that you do not want donated?

We appreciate creativity but used items should stay at home. Large, medium, small, odd, unique, weird, seemingly dull – we will use it for good.
