Fair FAQ

List of 27 items.

  • What is the Buckley Fair?

The Buckley Fair is a yearly fundraising event that features numerous opportunities for guests to support The Buckley School.

This year the Fair will take place at the Santa Monica Pier on May 19th from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Buckley will take over Pacific Park at the end of the pier for a night of rides, games, food, and fun for all the family.

All of the proceeds from the Fair will support our financial aid and teacher education programs.
  • What is the theme of the Fair?

This year’s theme is Camp Buckley! Think old-fashioned summer camp fun!
  • Who is planning this year’s event?

We are excited to announce the 2022 Fair is chaired and managed by parent volunteers Clementine Churchward, Moe Jelline-Fiveash, Rebecca Rising, and Bob Semanovich.

We have an incredibly diverse group of parents who are also acting as volunteers for various aspects of the Fair. Please contact us at fair@buckley.org if you would like to help the Fair Committee.
  • How much will a ticket cost?

Pre-order general admission tickets are $60 online or $75 when purchased at the Pier on the day of the fair. Each ticket provides limitless rides and $25 worth of food or games of your choice.
  • What is the Adult Lounge and will I need a separate ticket to enter? Can my child come into the lounge too?

The Adult Lounge is a special, shaded area on the Pier where adults are invited to mingle and enjoy nosh and alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks. There is a separate $50 entrance fee per person. Children are not permitted entry to the Adult Lounge. Adult Lounge bracelets are non-transferable.
  • Do I need an admission bracelet if I bought an adult lounge bracelet?

Yes! Everyone attending the Fair needs an admission bracelet.
  • Do I need an admission bracelet if I am not riding the rides?

Yes, even if you do not plan on riding any of the attractions you will still need an admission bracelet to enter the party.
  • I’m bringing a younger sibling, are there appropriate rides at the Fair for them?

There are lots of rides and games for ALL ages at Pacific Park – from bumper cars and a Ferris wheel to the faster drop tower and rollercoaster.
  • This is a late night for the little ones. Is there school on Friday?

There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, May 20, so our younger Griffins can stay up late and (hopefully) sleep in on Friday.
  • Is this event open to the public?

NO. This is a PRIVATE party for Buckley families and friends only. Pacific Park will close to the public at 4:00 p.m. and our party will begin at 5:00 p.m. There is one Buckley-guarded entrance to Pacific Park and your children will be safe to roam around the party with their friends.
  • Where do I enter the party?

There will be one entrance to the party located at the back of Pacific Park, off of the upper parking deck. The upper parking deck is currently closed for renovations but you will still be able to enter on foot and enter the party.
  • Where do I park?

We suggest parking in Lot 1 North at the base of the Pier. Be sure to leave extra time for traffic and parking when planning your drive to the Pier.
  • How can I sponsor the Fair?

Sponsorships start at $250 and offer a range of benefits - including reserved tables to sit, a reserved parking spot at the Pier on Fair day, admission tickets, adult lounge tickets, game and/or meal cards, faculty sponsorships, Camp Buckley swag, and your name on campus signage and at the Pier.
  • How can I purchase merchandise for the Fair?

Camp Buckley fair merchandise is available to purchase NOW through the Buckley online store! All merchandise purchased online will be sent home with your student. We will also be selling merchandise on campus at various events leading up to the Fair.

Remember: Camp Buckley T-shirts can be worn at school on Fair day, and we encourage everyone to wear their merch to the Fair itself! Fair sweatshirts are approved as part of the ongoing Buckley uniform! Go Camp Buckley!
  • What if I cannot afford the ticket price?

This event is both a fundraiser and a friend-raiser! We want everyone in our community to be able to attend. Anyone who cannot afford the ticket price should email Dale Bartels at dbartels@buckley.org.
  • Why should I volunteer and get involved?

The Buckley Fair is an opportunity for parents to do something meaningful to support our children’s education. By joining the Fair Committee team, you have an opportunity to use your talents, resources, and special skills to make the Fair a success – both as a party/social event and as a fundraiser! Our goal is 100% participation by the families in our school. This is truly a parent-led endeavor, and we want everyone to join!
  • How can I get involved?

We need all the help we can get! We are seeking volunteers who can solicit Sponsor Gift Bag items, seek sponsors for our event, as well as help set up and tear down the event on May 19, 2022. Anyone interested should email Fair@Buckley.org and let us know when they can help, their talents, resources, and areas of interest. We will put the appropriate team leader in touch with them.
  • What are you accepting/seeking donations for?

We are seeking donations of alcohol for the Adult Lounge and gift-type items for our Sponsor Gift Bags. Please contact fair@buckley.org for more information.
  • Are donations tax deductible?

The Buckley School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and thus donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Donors who submit the in-kind donation form will receive an acknowledgment for tax purposes and should consult their tax advisor for more information.
  • Is there a dress code for the evening?

There is no official dress code, but we encourage all guests to wear your Buckley Camp Fair merchandise!
  • Are there any testing requirements or mask mandates?

Since the event is outside, we are not requesting that masks be worn. As with all Buckley School events, we do ask that you take the utmost precautions to keep our community safe and well – if you have any COVID-like symptoms or feel unwell on the day of the Fair, please stay at home.
  • Can older kids come to the fair unaccompanied?

All children aged 18 and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Once inside the Fair, older children can separate from their parents and safely enjoy the Fair with friends if you feel comfortable.
  • Is there food available at the pier for those on a restricted diet e.g., gluten free or dairy intolerant?

Each ticket provides $25 worth of food or games of your choice. The food stations available at the pier on the evening of the fair will offer typical fair-style food - Beach Burger, will serve made-to-order burgers, hot dogs and fries, and the Pacific Wheel Pizza Company, will serve 9” pizzas, wings and breadsticks. If you have a child with a very restricted diet we suggest you eat something before you arrive. The Adult Lounge, which is an additional wristband that cost $50, and is for adults only, will offer a range of nibbles and snacks, with vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options available.
  • Can you buy more food once your allotted ticketed food runs out?

Yes – after you have used your meal tickets you will be able to purchase more food with additional concessions cards. These can be used for food or games, and can be purchased in increments of $25. Cash is not accepted at the food stations during our fair night.
  • Are there restrooms at the pier?

Yes, there are restrooms within Pacific Park where the fair will be held.
  • Can I bring a friend to the fair who does not attend Buckley?

Although this is advertised as a private event for Buckley families, we know that many families may have friends in town or may have organized playdates with other friends on the day of the Fair. We do allow friends of Griffins to attend the Buckley Fair, but kindly ask that all guests respect Buckley’s code of conduct.
  • Are there rules about leaving and re-entering the Fair?

As long as you have a wristband (which acts as your admission ticket), you can come and go from the event as you please. However, the boardwalk of the pier is still open to the public and can get busy in the late afternoon/early evening, so we recommend that you stay within the safe, closed-off area of our Buckley event.
