All students can and should have a creative experience in performing arts that is incredibly fun and that will build personal skills and traits that last a lifetime.  As such, our program is designed to achieve common goals, especially in the Lower School and Middle School, as well as to provide skilled-based challenges for our most serious young performers.

In the Lower School, beginning in kindergarten  students in each grade take dance, drama and music classes that expose them to general skills and knowledge, such as posture, storytelling rhythm and pitch.  It is amazing how brave our youngest students are and what they can accomplish given the right opportunity – writing plays in kindergarten, harmonizing in the 1st grade and directing in 5th grade! In the fourth grade, students select a music specialty (band, choir or orchestra) and begin more formal musical skills training.

Middle School students continue their broad performing arts education through the Middle School Arts Rotation, which includes dance, theatre, and band, choir or orchestra.

In the Upper School, during which students take a minimum of two years in the visual and performing arts, students develop advanced technical skills and nuanced understanding of their instruments and fields of study, and have the opportunity to join many small and large performance groups. Students in many classes also earn transferrable UC and CSU credit for their commitment to the arts.
