True Friends: Kindergarten and Fifth Grade Buddies Meet for Lunch

Looking for an example of what it means to be a True Friend? Our kindergarten and fifth grade buddies show us how it’s done!

So far this year, buddies have read books together and met up for lunch and this month, they met for lunch at the Bell Tower.

“[The buddy] program fosters a sense of community across all the grade levels in Lower School, but especially for kindergarten and fifth grade. The kindergarteners get to have a role model, and the fifth graders get to be that role model,” shares kindergarten teacher Roslyn Perez.

Perez also mentioned that it was one of her favorite parts of being a kindergarten teacher, because she enjoys seeing her old students return to the program as leaders.

Fellow kindergarten teacher John Ayers adds, “This program touches on our Buckley Commitment; students progress through the program and put those values into action!”

A buddy pair, including fifth graders August M-S. and Miles B. and kindergartener John F., also shared their thoughts on the program.

August explained that his favorite part of the program is seeing the younger buddies doing cute things, and remembering being a younger buddy himself! Miles enjoys spending time with his younger buddy, and helping him.

And John’s favorite part? “I love playing with them a lot!”
