In Honor of Conor

On the morning of Sunday, October 23, the Buckley cross country team participated in the sixth annual “In Honor of Conor” 5K Run/Walk at the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park, benefitting the Conor Lynch Foundation.

The foundation was set up by Buckley alumna, Jeri Dye Lynch ’77, who lost her son Conor, a Notre Dame High School student, when he was struck and killed by a distracted driver on his way to cross country practice.

According to the organization’s website, inhonorofconor.org, its’ mission is to support new and existing programs that raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving and promote the safety of runners, pedestrians, cyclists, and young drivers.

Buckley runners were invited to participate in the event by the Cerone family and the LemonAID Warriors booth. Along with Coach Jake Basmagian, our runners showed up bright and early to support the cause. To make the ties between “In Honor of Conor” and The Buckley School even stronger, Coach Jake’s mom, Ms. Rae Basmagian, currently the Middle and Upper School Administrative Assistant, coached Jeri Dye when she was a student at Buckley in the 70s.

We’re proud of our team for supporting our alumna and this wonderful cause.
