Dr. Buckley strongly believed that academic success – or any success, for that matter – is worthless if achieved at the cost of personal integrity. That is why our 4-Fold Plan includes a moral education component. That, in itself, is not that unusual. What is unusual is that at Buckley, we give developing a child’s moral character equal weight with developing their abilities in academics, arts and athletics.

This philosophy of striving for high moral standards is brought to life every day at The Buckley School through our Buckley Commitment. The Commitment embodies our core values of respect, kindness, honesty, loyalty, and self-discipline and self-reliance. It guides our choices as individuals and as an institution and is integrated into every aspect of the school, from the curriculum to the community service program, to the high expectations we have for student effort and conduct.

"Good Character, though still an old-fashioned phrase, is what the parent desires for his child. It implies honesty, respect, tolerance, and abiding in oneself."
