Basketball

Boys and girls learn about the intricacies of the game of basketball while practicing ball handling, dribbling, passing and shooting. This class provides students the opportunity to build self-esteem on and off the court, and to learn about the value of teamwork and hard work.

Bizainy: Hands-On Business Fun

Experience the fun side of business, money management and leadership through hands-on activities and games. Learn about the various departments of Bizainy Company through activities such as a blind taste test, negotiating like a rock star, managing a stock portfolio, creating a budget, developing a commercial, working as a team, and much, much more!

Chess Club

Chess is an exciting educational experience. This class not only teaches students to play chess, but also helps them succeed in school by stimulating problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills. Each class has a lesson for beginners, a lesson for intermediate/advanced students, and playing time for everybody. Participants have the opportunity to win cool prizes...certificates, medals and trophies.

Classical Ballet
T 2:35 pm - 4:30 pm - kindergarten, first grade through third grade
This class is designed to further an introduction to the world of ballet. Technique and self expression are woven through the curriculum. Age appropriate basics of classical ballet, based on the Vaganova syllabus of the Russian School of Dance, are fostered. Steps are taught using their French names. The grand finale is a performance for family and friends at the end of the session. The attire for boys: a white tee shirt, black shorts, jazz pants or sweat pants, and black leather ballet slippers. The attire for girls: a pink or black leotard, pink tights, and pink leather ballet slippers.

Computer Club with Mrs. Borggrebe
T 2:35 pm - 4:30 pm - kindergarten, first grade through fifth grade
Explore educational software using iPads and desktop computers under Mrs. Borggrebe's expert guidance. Students become familiar with the many exciting ways to use technology in this class. Project-based learning, such as writing and illustrating a book, or creating a photo album, is part of the experience. Tailoring activities to meet individual needs and teaching correct touch-typing techniques are important components of the class.

Culinary Kidz Academy

Laughter and learning are the two main ingredients of Culinary Kidz Academy. This revolutionary program, created by elementary school educator, Danny Corsun, provides a FUN culinary workshop for students. Lessons integrate academic components such as math, science, history, safety, hygiene and nutrition. Students are empowered to cook REAL food, learn valuable facts, and build self-esteem all while having a blast. Games, Games, Games

Come join Coach Holland for an afternoon of FUN! The emphasis of Games, Games, Games is on skill development, teamwork and sportsmanship. Skills are introduced through drill and activities designed to build a solid foundation for each of the participants. Hoopamania, Run to Freedom, Cone Ball, and Spoon and Egg Relay are just a few of the games students experience in this class. Skill levels are carefully matched with each activity to help all children feel successful.

Getting Down in Lower Town
Th 2:35 pm - 4:30 pm - second grade and third grade
Beginning and experienced dancers are invited to explore multiple styles of movement including jazz, ballet, hip hop, cheerleading and broadway. To the beat of various music genres, students have the opportunity to develop technique, learn routines, and even choreograph their own pieces of work. This program focuses on the value and joy of becoming a diverse performer. Dancers build coordination and artistry, while expressing themselves through creative movement. There will be an end-of-session performance for family and friends.

Hip Hop Dance

Spend an afternoon with Mrs. Watts learning the fundamentals of Hip Hop dance. This class emphasizes coordination, rhythm and musicality. Students explore other dance forms including Jazz and Zumba. In addition, there is the opportunity to choreograph their own dances. Fostering creativity and individuality, the class culminates with a final performance that is not be be missed!

Hockeytime

This class is designed for the true hockey enthusiast. Stick handling, shooting, passing and goaltending are covered along with aspects of team play. Be ready to engage in high powered and fun hockey activities.

Jedi Training Camp and Game Show Decathlon
Th 2:35 pm - 4:30 pm - second grade through fifth grade
The Force will be with you! In this class, children learn the way of the Padawan, build Star Wars vehicles, learn to draw the Clone Wars cartoon characters, create their own Jedi uniform and take home a Light Saber! Midway through this session, the class transitions into an entirely different course offering. Students learn a ton through game show formats such as Jeopardy. They team up to answer questions and, in the process, review and acquire new information in a setting that makes them feel capable and knowledgeable.

Lego Robotics and CarCreator Workshop

Challenge aspects of your creativity and intellect in this dual offering. In Lego Robotics learn the basics of engineering and physics. New and different projects every week are introduced to build, test and modify. The CarCreator class is a fun opportunity to build cars and race them. Gain knowledge of axles and gears to create SUPER COOL vehicles.

Mandarin Chinese: Language and Culture

As China is reshaping the world's econmic and political landscape, learning Chinese language and culture gives children vital skills for the professional and business worlds. This class incorporates movement, music, and art to create a strong contextual foundation for learning a new language. Students become aware of and appreciate Chinese culture through the various activities introduced.

Storybook Theatre Advanced

Students enjoy acting multiple character roles, and the thrill of enhancing their readings with sound effects through iPad technology. Enter the imaginative, fantasy filled world for a playful, dynamic approach to the continued development of reading and comprehension skills through the art of performance.

Swimming with Coach Hehn
Th 2:35 pm - 4:30 pm - first grade through fifth grade
Swimming in the Buckley pool is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon while also being physically active. Children need to be water safe in order to be enrolled in this class. Essential requirments are: swimsuit, goggles and a towel. Boys may wear the normal Speedo brief, or Jammers, and girls are required to wear a one piece swimsuit. Join this class and improve your swimming prowess under the guidance of Buckley's own swim coach, Keri Hehn.

Table Tennis

Table tennis is an exciting sport that can be played around the world competitively and recreationally. It requires players to utilize hand eye coordination and, over time, develops overall fitness. By combining skill development, individual competition and team competition, this afterschool program benefits students seeking recreational fun and competitive play. Students learn the rules of table tennis and participate in friendly contests in this class.

Tennis with Coach Cole
T 2:35 pm - 4:30 pm - third grade and fourth grade
This program introduces and reinforces the FUNdamental tennis skills of court agility and footwork, ground strokes, volley, serves, and lobs. Consistent with "play-based" coaching, sessions are structured so that children learn skills and can apply them during simulated game situations. All games and activities accommodate various skill levels, and age appropriate technical and tactical concepts are integrated.

Yoga with Miss Cosolito
M 2:35 pm - 4:30 pm - kindergarten, first grade through fifth grade
Through the practice of yoga, children improve motor skills, coordination, balance, strength and flexibility. Yoga helps children gain a deeper awareness of their feelings through meditation and breathing. The integration of a physical and mental yoga practice helps students increase their self-esteem, and develop an understanding of their bodies and minds. Come have fun with your friends as you stretch your hearts, minds and bodies in this class. Please note: Students need to provide their own yoga mat.
