The Lower School Library is centrally located on Buckley's Lower School campus, and serves as a warm and friendly hub for K-5 students throughout the school day. The library collection includes over 15,000 books, including an extensive selection of literature, non-fiction, parenting resources, and research materials designed to enrich the lower school curriculum. Parents and students are always welcome to browse and check out books and other materials from the library.

K-5 Students enjoy library class in half groups once a week in our cozy story-telling room. Beginning in kindergarten, the learning focus is on library skills, terminology and how to select and care for books. While the younger students let their imaginations take flight with story time each week, grades 3-5 are introduced to the Big-6 program, enriching students with the information and problem solving methods and techniques needed for research projects.

The Buckley Readerís Club is a very popular, non-competitive program designed to increase studentsí awareness and enjoyment of quality literature while setting personal reading goals. This library program which started in 1993, recognizes numerous students each school year who meet or surpass their reading goals, and has now become a staple in the Lower School library program.

The California Young Reader program is thoroughly enjoyed by K-5 Buckley students each year. At story-time, students are introduced to the state-wide nominated books, and are motivated to read the other collected books at home. They further participate in related learning activities in class and then vote for their favorite books. Lastly, the votes are tallied with other California participants to determine the annual award-winning books.

Library Volunteers are always welcome at Buckley and, in addition to the librarian and assistant librarian, one can find numerous parents, grandparents, and nannies helping out each day in the Lower School library. Our wonderful volunteers help students to check-out books, shelve, catalogue and cover books, and decorate the library for various events and holidays.
